@isaacfreeman Certainly the last few times I was in your city I didn't see any obvious neo nazis. The time before I certainly did, and the time before that some of them were full on screaming at me. Apparently they didn't like the songs I was singing. @strypey @thomasbeagle @stephen

@strypey I read it as very much a "dose makes the poison" thing, just as it's possible to consume fatal amounts of water. It's to do with having a large amount of guar gum absorbing water, swelling and causing dangerous physical blockages in the digestive system. The non-prescription diet aid ban is due to unregulated diet products containing inappropriate amounts of guar gum leading causing injury in the ,90's.

@strypey Wasn't aware it was banned yet here? Did I miss the coalition government doing something good for a change? Even better would be refusing to enforce GSK IP rights to the shingles vaccine so we could get protected without lining their pocketbook

@ersatzmaus Bats in New Zealand also spend time crawling about on the ground. We have a cool subterranean parasitic plant that's flowers are pollinated by the bats. Unfortunately introducing mammalian predators that hunt by scent has done a number on the bats. And made it harder for these flowers to get poillinated.https://www.doc.govt.nz/nature/native-plants/dactylanthus/ @llewelly @futurebird

@strypey My gut reaction is that they do it by not putting people on the register in the first place, and reviewing the people on it to remove them from the register as ineligible. I doubt there is any significant increase in people getting in to social housing.

@su_liam Heh. You seem to have a problem saying cunt, instead using a term for pussy that isn't usually associated with genitals, but you have no problems with cunt being insulting because it's gendered. As a cunt haver I find it obnoxious and somewhat hurtful that a comparison to me can so easily be seen to denigrate an utterly despicable person.@hannu_ikonen

@AnthonyJK Thanks. I do know many women, including some I otherwise respect , use the term in both the insult and the positive sense*, and refer to Tim Minchin's ginger song* I also get a huge giggle when UK transphobes insist they are GC , not TERF. Here that means Good Cunt, which whilst not true is also probably not what they would be happy being called, cunt not generally bring a positive term there@su_liam @hannu_ikonen

@strypey I think internetnz gets the bulk of their money from registry fees. Though their revenue from membership fees will have taken a jump this year. I'm afraid the defending is related more to a difficult working relationship with the then new internetnz boss, Viv Maidaborn

@lightweight (This post coming at you from the distant past due to me bookmarking it in case the admin of my server might find it interesting*)Hoping it is ok to impose on you and ask for advice for what I can do to make my messages more visible to other members? It seems that they are getting slightly unusual messages - not the usual waiting to decrypt, but more along the lines of my account not trusting them enough to show it to them.Bizarrely it seems to be room specific, so they can see my messages in other chats.I've force updated to the latest version of the classic element app, to no avail. There's a suggestion I leave the room and rejoin it, but I am somewhat reluctant. Currently I can see all (I the messages (I think) and am trying to work around by asking more generally visible members to repost mine, and I can see that going downhill.*Admin is not always hugely responsive, so haven't actually shared the blog with them yet

@futurebird Definitely remember, but I was a bit younger than Stephen. I'm not aware of any close family friends who were borrowing heavily to invest in what turned out to be junk shares, so insulated from that. Lots of yuppies git hard though. Everything he says about our property market, and lasting effects I feel pretty keenly. I do also wonder if the neoliberal policies also affected investing decisions: the best bets were property or formerly state owned assets (mostly monopolies). Why risk your money on companies trying to actually produce anything?

@MCDuncanLab Heh. Without recognizing it as drama my mother happily relates how the "kids make their own lunches" protocol happened in our family. Apparently when my elder sister was 6 she was taken to task for bringing her sandwiches home uneaten for a week. She countered with the sandwiches not being made the way she liked them (maybe it was margarine not butter?) and from that day on lunch making became the kid's job. Including our eldest sister, who was not involved in the exchange at all. When the younger siblings started school we got our lunches made for us for a week. I recall a lot of margarine and marmite sandwiches. On brown bread.@jgordon @futurebird @llewelly

@stephen A quick and rude method:https://wiki.otepoti.dev/books/kitchen-syndicate/page/fruit-wineSome slightly more sophisticated versions from Gill PainterI don't know that cooking to remove the stones was good for the flavour. Most people seem to say removing the stones is important because of the cyanidish compounds. So far as I know Gill Painter lived a long and healthy life and only one of her collected recipes requires cutting them out
