@Clariana @Chronic-Yonic It's interesting because I seem to remember reading somewhere that there's a similar overload tendency in the way each sex understands what the opposite sex finds attractive - eg men get that (straight) women like decently muscled men, but then they overload into the Schwarzenegger pornification of that image; similarly, women get that straight men like decent-sized breasts, but then overload into the silicone barbie triple D cup ICBM nosecone thing. (And of course there'll be men and women who actually do go for the overload variant too.)Bottom line is we evolved as a species to handle scarcity. * one tiny reservation; I was disappointed just now to trip over a lengthy in-text footnote on why it's cool to have minority-representing characters fill a variety of roles including villains, badly behaved people etc..... I mean, duh. Does this *really need* stating explicitly in a literary novel about an abusive lesbian relationship? Feels like a sudden failure in courage-of-convictions that jibes really badly with the overall effortless genius of the text. Either that, or it's the deathly touch of the Academy and PC theoretics falling on the shoulder of the fiction like the stern and leather-gloved grip of some secret police thug that chills to the bone.Or - you know what? - maybe it's simpler than that. Maybe this is just another case of the death of subtext and subtle art - the high-end literary version of that excruciating line in almost every superhero or Disney movie these days where someone has to, just fucking HAS TO say the words out loud "Let's go save the world/Guess you'd better go save the world/wow, looks like we have to save the world" Y'know, just in case you were too dumb to grasp what - inevitably - the stakes of this are.......

@sub_aetha Yeah, the basket of snails phase comes later, so you've got that to look forward to. For thirty cents extra, I went large and added a hacking chest cough, but that's just me.Industrial doses of paracetamol are your friend, plus some para/decongestant mix later on. Good news is - it totally exempts you from doing anything constructive for the duration.

I'd say that basically any citizen refusing to get vaxxed should be required to sign a disclaimer in which they agree to forgo any medical treatment if they fall ill with Covid.Have a suspicion that might shut down a large percentage of the foolishness.

The idea that *anything* in the current stew of tech development and the social fallout from it was *planned* is...........hilarious. The whole thing is moving too fast for anyone to do anything other than make a few best guesses, hold on tight and try to cash in. "Move fast and break things" really is the creed - a toddler-level fascination with creative destruction and barely anything more grown up to temper it. There's almost nothing intentional there at all.
