@ZachWeinersmith I've always thought there must be some central rules to intelligence, that there are many messy ways to implement it but the principle itself would be a single thing.That no matter what, it would look beautiful.

@ZachWeinersmith It depends on where you're standing. In the middle and you'll be surrounded by an inside out version of yourself. Facing close to a wall you look almost normal, but looking over your reflection's shoulder it'd get weird. With your back to the wall looking across the room I *think* your reflection would be you, but no longer switched left to right.

@ZachWeinersmith The visual neural networks seem to be smarter this way. I saw a study demonstrating that, given only a lot of 2D photos, the network reinvented a third dimension and a Z buffer in order to generate realistic fake photos. (Makes me wonder about 4D!) That said, if you've never seen a sky, and the prompt says you're looking at one, wouldn't it be reasonable to assume there is a sky?

@ZachWeinersmith Yeah why can't we just give a neural network a calculator, an encyclopedia, and a video game engine to get its facts straight? That leaves the network as just an interface/ambassador between humans and more classical machinery.

@interfluidity Yeah it is surprising that this story has such legs when so much worse is going on right in front of us everywhere else. Mass imprisonment of innocent people, huge security-busting conflicts of interest, etc. It's like the press is focused on the insufficient safety of one camp fire while the entire forest is burning to ashes all around.

@cdarwin That might actually be popular. I know the right wing goal is to destroy education, but the student loan debacle allowed colleges to make massive bank on the crushing debt of young people. Higher education would have been more fascism-proof if it hadn't become so financialized.
