This is a really important thread about #Fediverse #Sustainability https://newsie.social/@jeff/109642749739164655Financial transparency should be a major part of this. It should be (but is not yet) trivial for instance admins to have a public report of the instances finances.@opencollective has some great infrastructure for this. Needs more integration at UI though.

It’s fascinating to watch the backlash against basic Fediverse analytics. Specifically, it’s just wild to me that:(1) Sizable group of Fediverse users feel very strongly that there should be ZERO data analysis, but…(2) The platforms have piles of APIs, many of which are unauthenticated, and the fundamental ActivityPub protocol is extremely chattyThe technology does not align with the user’s expectations, thus drama. We need @spritelyinst to implement https://gitlab.com/spritely/ocappub

I’m amused to see folks saying that the #fediverse has “squandered” the opportunity presented by Twitter’s collapse. I have a very different take…There’s a ton of attention and energy in the ecosystem now, and it’s needed just to consolidate at the current level of use. The ecosystem can’t handle another order or magnitude jump right now.

@opencollective fantastic!I thought passwordless was a good idea when I first heard about it, but after experiencing it firsthand… not so much. I rely on my password manager, and clicking over to email to find a magic link is not better.

@simon @rysiek If you actually want a feature like this, you can get it from #Kagi. They’re adding a Universal Summarizer feature to their search engine:https://twitter.com/vladquant/status/1620835123271991297It’s part of their larger AI roll out https://blog.kagi.com/update-kagi-search-pricing#genai
