       This is a really important thread about #Fediverse #Sustainability https://newsie.social/@jeff/109642749739164655Financial transparency should be a major part of this. It should be (but is not yet) trivial for instance admins to have a public report of the instances finances.@opencollective has some great infrastructure for this. Needs more integration at UI though.

       Fiscal health should be prominent on every #Mastodon instance’s About page.I’m talking a dynamic dashboard that shows:- all the hosting costs- percentage of folks who donate- summary stats on donations- out of pocket costs by the admins- per-user monthly donation needed to cover costs (at various participation levels)The core software should help admins do this. It’s a decent amount of work.
