@dick_turpin We had to get an indemnity policy for building regs because we had lost a certificate for some electrical work. The policy premium was £51 but they charged an extra £70 plus VAT to arrange it (and you can't arrange these types of policy yourself).And they charge £43 (plus VAT) for the electronic transfer fee for the money.

@dick_turpin I think this is a good thing to happen. The people who stay are the ones who make the effort to understand how Mastodon works and appreciate the different culture compared to Twitter.The press can't seem to understand that Mastodon is not a proprietary social network competing with other networks to gain a larger user base to drive advertising revenues.

@Chrishallbeck When my daughter was younger, I had to take with me to work for a few hours. At one point she looked at my screen at some code I was working on and said "What's this nonsense?". After that, my colleague and I always referred to source code as "The Nonsense".

@dick_turpin @penguin42 As far as I understand it, the base rate is the interest that the BoE pays commercial banks on the reserves they hold.Commercial banks can charge any interest rate they want in theory, but why would they lend money at a lower rate than they can get from depositing reserves in the BoE? Especially as the BoE isn't likely to default. (but I might be wrong as I'm not an economist).
