I've owned various #MFJ products over the years, and have generally been good with the price, but less than impressed by their design and QC. Their disappearance will create a hole in the lower end of #amateuradio gear. Hopefully another vendor will come in and fill the void.

@HopelessDemigod @PopeASDF @KC8JC There will be a fairly robust used market for tuners as there are a plethora out there. I'm not so sure about amplifiers. QRO has always been the equipment of those with money. Beyond the amp itself, it's a matter of running the power and upscaling the grounding, antenna and feedline.

@HeatherInNZ ive checked into both nets in the last couple of years from my ship. Not as critical now, as most boaters have shifted to Starlink, but still nice to hear a voice on the radio.

@PopeASDF @HeatherInNZ True. I see that SCS modems are getting cheaper on the used market. This means that one or both of the following are happening: 1) they shifted to VARA HF and/or 2) Starlink Marine is cheap enough for people to forego HF entirely. Of course for a good number of years, boating winlinkers made extensive use of the system. Unfortunately they did not abide by the rules as well as they should have and caused a bit of angst in the community at large.

@PopeASDF @HeatherInNZ I have no issue with proprietary modes, but do with people not listening then causing QRM and/or using it for more than personal messages. I have used winlink at sea since 2002, starting with Pactor I and now using P4 or VARA. It seems to have shifted away from the boat stuff to more emcom nets and random messaging. I think posting the messages online is a big part of that.
