Hiked to Peters Creek grove in Portola Redwoods state park. The nicest old growth redwood grove left in the Santa Cruz mountains. There’s bigger trees elsewhere but this one has neither burnt down nor been turned into a theme park. Couple trees got logged some time in the early XXth century but it’s been left alone for many decades now.Six mile hike up and down the hills to make it there. Another six to make it back. Lots of effort to bring you quality #ThickTrunkTuesday materiel but worth it.

@_L1vY_ I can't remember who it was that wrote it, but I remember reading that Trump's base was "small business tyrants" and so far everything we've seen tracks.Actual poor people don't get to vote that much but even the ones whiter than sour cream tend to vote Democratic.

@ZachWeinersmith The way I see it we can't truly separate human (or animal) intelligence from the biological imperatives. Intelligence is a weird thing that evolved as a way for biological lifeforms to survive and thrive better. Intelligence is a better way to want things (food, a mate, not to get eaten…).No one has the first clue for how to make a computer want something.

@midendian when I was a kid I wondered how computers work. After a computer science degree and twenty years in the industry I wonder how the **** do ****ing computers ever ****ing work.

@HeavenlyPossum and I’d like to add the observation that this need not have to do anything with any intrinsic nobility or ingrained respect for nature (let’s also not fall into “noble savage” mythology).This is what worked for them after generations of learning and adaptation. I’m sure at some point some tribe overhunted their favored prey. Then they either starved or moved or had to figure out another food source. They didn’t have the luxury of modern extractive economies of just leaving the place a dump and moving on to the next one. The ones that lasted were the ones that figured it out.

@Nonilex it’s kinda poetic since a lot of the Epstein conspiracism has been about redirecting attention to the obvious and well known fact that Trump was Epstein’s best friend for ages and took advantage of it.Would be nice if this got a few of the folks in the MAGA bubble to realize they’ve been fed a load of bullshit for quite a while now.
