@puppygirlhornypost2 the thing I find really wild about the Tanenbaum-Torvalds debate is Linus was just 21 or 22 from my recollection - and Linux was just 3 or so years old.

@foone Maybe a lighter weight program for single panels, with Open Source Girls Love Extra Short, or OpenGLES?

me: I'm going to relax today (i'm sick)also me: huh so hiberation stopped working on my laptop recently, I should just quickly fix itoh so linux mint doesn't like when you upgrade the *debian way* they have their own graphical thing oklet's revert to the actual installed version so it can do its own dist-update finealso me: *literally 8 hours later* only by the grace of god (an update installer refusing to do anything without a snapshot which I recovered) is this device not brickedno relax

me: this laptop is not the experimental computer, just the whatever stable releasealso me: what if I just go straight to oracular and ignore all the linux mint docsme: oh reverting should be relatively easy then the upgrade thingy should workalso me: spends 8 hours hand guiding apt through dependencies and downgrades before getting impatient and not paying enough attention so apt pulled a real moment and fucked up PAM

this is somehow still a better computing experience than windows(I say this as someone who's used a very large proportion of the windows versions, with the notable exception of pre-3.1 and ME, and uses windows at work)

if linux could figure out how to hibernate like macos on apple silicon there would be pretty much no features of any other *widely used* OS I'd want to add

my utopian dream would be a decentralised computer from the silicon to the OS, all open source and created by interconnected communities focussed on the art of computer touching™️ if anyone needs an SoC-level performance engineer for this let me know (i'm not a expert but it is my job)imagine how many cool OS, programming language, and computer architecture ideas could be played with and exchanged across the entire stack??? it could be fun

@emily I meant the people, with groups that aren't specifically structured but interact freelyDecentralised computer is also cool. There are some concepts with functional units that are allocated dynamically to different workloads to maximise parallelism which is a cool idea
