still can't believe the other day i found out linus had to defend his kernel from the same professor who inspired him to make it. the professor called it 'obsolete' because of the monolithic approach and the fact it was targeting 386 specifically

tbf there probably was a lot of valid criticism in the "flamewar" between the two, and it probably led Linus to a different approach in order to make things more platform agnostic

@puppygirlhornypost2 the thing I find really wild about the Tanenbaum-Torvalds debate is Linus was just 21 or 22 from my recollection - and Linux was just 3 or so years old.

@MekahimeAkari@mastodon.social minix also has a ton of issues. it's okay the creator of minix got his karma when Intel slipped to him "your operating system is the most popular in the world!" and then he found out it was what runs Intel Management Engine + AMT https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/guide/getting-started-with-active-management-technology.html
