Good mini-progress news on the FLOSS/Co-op platform front: in a meeting of folks today, I suggested we use Jitsi - easier than Zoom and more private - as well as Framasoft tools like framalistes, framaforms, and mobilizon, as well as NextCloud for file sharing. It's a group exploring cooperative solutions to local food issues, so when I said, "we can use Google tools, but that's like shopping at WalMart - easy, familiar, convenient, but destructive to the food system" -- it seemed to resonate.

In the U.S., labor unions are the "exclusive bargaining agents" for the workers they represent. In Japan, for example, this is not the case; multiple unions can represent members in the same workplace. This has major implications for union democracy -- if there is only one union, you need strong democratic rights for members. If multiple unions are allowed, workers can switch unions, or start a new one. Analogously, Twitter has something like exclusivity; Mastodon allows for multiple instances.
