@horizonalNetwork I kind of like the name -- oriented to the horizon...

@Matt_Noyes One minor problem so far: if I am already following whoever mentioned @horizonalNetwork the group does not seem to repeat their toot.Which makes perfect sense, I don't need to see it twice. But in that case, I wonder if the @GuppeGroups does any more toward internetworking toots than a #horizontalNetwork hashtag?

@bhaugen @Matt_Noyes In Mastodon, hashtags are a way of organizing toots that you have come in contact with, but they don't help you find new toots outside your network.@GuppeGroups is designed to help you grow your network around topics of interest; if two unconnected people both participate in a group, it will cause them to become connectedFor posts between people who are already connected, though, the group doesn't really add anything beyond a hashtag

@datatitian I didn't understand that @GuppeGroups were not about existing groups, but about attracting unconnected people to a topic and so getting them connected. But now I think I do. @Matt_Noyes @GuppeGroups

@bhaugen @GuppeGroups @Matt_Noyes Well that was my motivation for making it, but feel free to use it however it can be useful to you!

@datatitian Some of us were looking for ways for groups to organize themselves (act like groups) in the fediverse without all congregating in the same instance, which doesn't help a lot as the population of the instances grow, and wondered if @GuppeGroups could help with that. From the experiments so far, not much. But I could always be missing something...@Matt_Noyes

@bhaugen @GuppeGroups @Matt_Noyes what features would you need for it to serve that purpose better?

@datatitian @GuppeGroups @Matt_Noyes I'm reluctant to suggest adding features to something that works and we just need to learn what it's good for (and not good for).I'm personally still thinking hard about this idea that came to me from the last meeting of a not-very-organized group and wondering if the fediverse could help us get better organized, and if so, how? It's about getting more actively connected more than attracting more people. Later for that. Hope that made sense.

@bhaugen @datatitian @GuppeGroups @Matt_Noyes @datatitian Did someone say help? :)Usually as I see it people need someone as a warm-middle or even step in as their own authority but towards organising the organisers and being flexible to everyone at the same time to let things happen / motivate...in steps FreeSchool...He make notes and friends... and isn't afraid (a key component) If you want a test just let me know - and after if the sentiments are not for you that's ok because you actually tested 'it' out (a key component) before closing the door to trying something different.(the 'it' is what we can discuss in a group or individually, again I'm not scared)I agree with the sentiments of seeing semi-organised people or people start-up without good comms - so in this case I can't honestly comments and we can talk about it so I'm neutral right now and anyway 'external' or mutual-random-friend can help in many ways but people have to want it or try before they judge and even make it work if person is not that bad / has some points.I think that's enough of an intro for now. Replies welcome.

Taking guppe etc out of the thread and adding @mike_hales @Matt_Noyes was already there.I'm looking back at two meetings that were coordinated via a somewhat-integrated combo of social.coop, a forum, a meeting place, and probably an email thread or two.1. the recent OFN meeting, and2. the upcoming Commons Hour. What did the fediverse add to that mix that was better than just email? Anything? And what else could we coordinate that would have more substance than a meeting? Like food?

Happy to have voice chats with people circling these ideas - I think I can add in the way of organising constructive chats, perhaps moderated, with an agenda to see what the perspectives or problems are or simply explore what we're not sure about just for clarity and then towards enjoying solving them,Anyone welcome. Might be hard at first to label what we are thinking but together can help each other get there.
