@glynmoody I honestly have no idea what will happen here. The current SCOTUS is conservative but if anything it's shown a profound indifference to Trump proper at the very least, at least as far as his cases have been concerned. It's also possible this will work its way through the lower courts, giving the justices cover to let a lower ruling stand. L

@glynmoody The justices are loyal to conservatism, but at this point they are beyond Trump's ability to touch.On the other hand it's also probable that these lawsuits will not be heard by SCOTUS. A lot of them have been dismissed in lower courts due to the plaintiffs in said cases lacking standing.Now if Trump gets convicted things might actually get interesting here, as then we'll be in uncharted territory.

@paninid Fine, I'll give the details. I'm omitting names since I don't want to contribute to the drama.The BlueSky post involves claims regarding a certain well known account, specifically of them being a Republican and a transphobe. I can find zero evidence for the former claim and the latter claim is tenuous as well. Of course, since it's BlueSky none of the tweets talking about this give any links. And just as I was writing this I was given context by someone more in the loop than I am. It appears that the first claim is bullshit and the second claim is as well.

@paninid Oh it was bad even before now. Back in 2017 I nearly rage-quit Twitter altogether because of just how stupid the misinformation was there, and that wasn't even during election season. Ultimately I pivoted to Fediverse for a reason.

@freemo @LouisIngenthron Personally I think Nikki Haley and Chris Christie could pass for moderates these days (not that I agree with them on much of anything), so I'd say... 23% of the GOP at least is still moderate. However, I do suspect that much of the moderate GOP has left the party, though I admittedly have no numbers for that. I have two conservative family members who have left the GOP, though.

Is #CNN actually doing something right here with this interview regarding what Gosar said? @lauren From what I can tell it's not the mere presence of ads as much as their increased number, their splicing into videos (even rather short ones) and the fact that you increasingly can't skip a lot of them (which was less of an issue in the past). It also doesn't help that creators are not given as much control over their placement of ads int their videos as in the past. I have heard a lot of people, including a lot of Discord contacts, say that if premium were somewhat cheaper they would absolutely buy it rather than use an ad blocker. I myself *did* pay for premium for quite some time, but I found that it was not worth the high monthly cost.Personally I think a much more ideal solution would be people moving towards something like PeerTube, as it would eliminate the need to have the overwhelming majority of online videos be hosted and stored by a single large for-profit company, but I unfortunately don't see that happening on a large scale in the near future.

@shoq @w7voa To be clear, it's also not him specifically losing the money, but Twitter, which now has a *much* lower value than he does. This is also on top of the already massively reduced ad revenue Twitter has had overall.Musk might walk away from this (though I am not sure he will walk away from the increasing crises happening with Tesla, as his net worth is tied up almost entirely in highly overvalued Tesla stocks). But the only way I see Twitter surviving this is him selling it, and between his ego and his ketamine addiction I don't see that happening.

So now that we have fiber and a static IP here, I am thinking of moving my Akkoma server from Linode to something personally hosted. (The domain and contents will remain the same. I'm not giving that up)I'm still not sure if the machine I got to host it is going to work. It's a 10 year old machine I got for free from RIT after the cybersecurity department cleaned out an old closest, Furthermore, only the DMS-59 port connects to the graphics card, and since I don't have a DMS-59 adapter, I had to order one and will need to wait until it arrives (Jan 3) to use it. If everything on that machine works, I'm going to wipe it and install Ubuntu Server. From there, I'll see if I can install Akkoma and move Sandhill Social to that machine. If not...well I guess I'll be stuck with Linode for at least a little bit longer.Either way, I'm going to keep you all posted as to how this goes. Advice is welcome.
