Seems like the Pinephone Pro can be used as a daily driver for me soon. Anyone recommend any apps/first steps?I’m probably going to 3D print a case and also upgrade the modem’s firmware. Besides that I’m not sure what to do besides explore :DI’m using postmarketOS with the mainline kernel and the main reason it will become my daily driver is because it seems like battery charging in suspend mode works. Still drains extremely fast when in use though

@craftyguy Why aren’t businesses doing taxes for it’s workers instead? I thought that in the US, the free market is much more efficient than the government but it doesn’t look like the case here. 🤔🤔🤔Jokes aside, what the US government is doing is a great first step

WOOHOO! Got my first (real) linux kernel commit into mainline! I’m pretty happy right now :)Thanks to @postmarketOS for creating a space for awesome hackers. Off the top of my head, David Heidelberg, @tooniis, and minecrell were a huge help, though there are probably others I probably forgot to mention. It’s been a while since I tried to mainline my patches again, so sorry if I forgot to mention youNext step: Probably remove the old port and get a mainline version of the device into pmOS

@jwildeboer since you boosted this, i had a couple of questions for u:- why not BANCOR? it seems the wiki page had a chinese economist voting for this idea. i guess bc maybe its for economic dominance?- why cant banks just interoperate with each other in terms of currency porportions? eg. 1 cny = .13 usd. whatever currency they have they can send it in that?thanks!@yogthos

@rms how is this different from various gov agencies buying data from private companies? i agree its bad, but even tho gov agencies can’t share personal data, they’re still able to buy it from private companiesthis unfortunately speeds up whatever they’re trying to do unfortunately. paying companies at least slowed it down somewhati dont think saving taxpayers money here is worth the significant risk it poses to the usa’s residents

would people be interested in buying devices directly from #postmarketOS or having pmOS pre flashed by OEMs?there are a couple organizational issues publicly available: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/operations/-/issuespmOS is reaching out to OEMs, but i wonder if people would also be open to buying slightly older devices that are pre flashed. are there any entities that can help mainline a device if paid?everything is up in the air, but there is interest within pmOSthoughts?

@pid_eins @LaF0rge i think a slow migration and communication wouldve been best here. or even a config to opt out and leave the default… well the defaultim not familiar with this, so i cant say what the technical merit is, but from a social view, it seems like a feature that some distros need was ripped out without being communicated in advancei think defaults can and should change, but i think it should be systemd’s responsibility to communicate that

now that postmarketOS has somewhat partnered with a vendor (still hammering down the “contract”: https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/operations/-/merge_requests/2), im hoping to get a feedback loop going- vendors partner with us to promote and sell dev devices ✅- pmOS talks to entities that can help finish up the port to become a Main device- we finalize the contract and vendor’s donations help fund it- vendor’s extra funds can go into trying to get more devices into Main- rinse and repeat

@rms imo the fsf is disconnected with reality. nothing u have said is wrong, but the expense to switch is too high and people usually scoff when being asked if they would like to switch to foss software, even with OSS enthusiasts. instead IT departments would rather pay someone else to handle their job for them, leading to vendor lock in and people being used to that flowinstead if there was a freedom ladder, it’d be much more conductive than “my way or the highway”
