@peter Yeah - I don't mind if there's a particularly insightful/good reply worth boosting, but not the entire conversation. I also am getting increasingly annoyed by those who boost their own posts every 4-6 hours to make sure it's seen often.

Should I be concerned that the HVAC tech here to make sure the breakers are upgraded and proper to pass DC inspection for the units installed in July is watching a YouTube video on how to use a multimeter?

@IMGoph @BenHarris_1 But what about the "transit-oriented parking" that'll be destroyed?!?!? https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/02/01/metro-is-ignoring-parking-issues-takoma-park-development/

@BenHarris_1 @IMGoph "This project will replace short-term temporary parking on an unsecured surface lot with all-day permanent parking availability in a safe and secured garage."

@wegonnaseeno @peter @ebooksyearn The vans make sense if (and only if) the back is full of boots ready to place on vehicles.

@ebooksyearn @wegonnaseeno @peter They definitely don't have nearly as many as they need, nor do they do a good job in "prioritizing" their use. In a fit of boredom, I checked all of the cars that got no parking tickets in Eckington a few weeks ago, with 1/4 of the cars getting a boot. They did not make good use of their limited boots - IIRC one bootee had just 4 unpaid expired meter violations, whereas a non-bootee had 6 meter violations plus 15 speeding tickets.

Just saw last week's "news" that verified users on the birdsite will get a cut of the ad revenue from ads that appear in the replies of their threads. Seems to encourage the toxicity that brings out the worst of that place, no?

@peter It also just seems like a desperate attempt to try to increase subscriber numbers by promising a sliver of the tiny ad revenue they're generating these days. (Makes me wonder if the decision to pull the API was also influenced by people who were using it to pull updated counts of Twitter blue subscriptions - showing that they were only around 300k...)

Remember when "rollover" was something people were concerned about before buying what were (at the time) oversized SUVs? https://www.arlnow.com/2022/12/27/just-in-vehicle-overturns-in-homes-garage-injuring-woman/

@peter Yeah - I thought the crash on Riggs Road a few weeks ago was hard to wrap my head around, but speed plus a small hill makes a lot of things more believable. This one is just...impressive.

@MrTinMD @nikkid @acdha For the life of me, I don't understand this fascination with requiring people to be in the office just for the sake of being in the office. Sure, make it an option, and try to make it compelling if you'd like, but if the work can be done anywhere, what does it matter? (At the end of the day, it should be about the work - not preferences or old-fashioned ideals.)

@APBBlue Part-time? (ha!)Reminds me of the joke/story of the welder who was asked by a hiring official to demonstrate his skills. The job had been posted with pay of $15-$30/hr. The welder made two welds - one technically OKish but sloppy, the other amazingly precise and just about perfect.The official asked him why they were so different, and the welder said "that one is what you get for $15/hr., and that other one is what you get for $30/hr."
