Does anyone here run #thunderbird with very large mailboxes covering over 15y? I decided to give it a try, part of my de-Microsoft-ing, and it’s near unusable for the freezing. I’ve tried the anti-virus exception, turning off windows indexing and deleting the *.msf files.

Still hangs. Before I added my main account I REALLY liked #thunderbird and was excited to make the switch. Add my main work account and personal account and it breaks. Having different programs for work and personal is not an option.

@mpjgregoire I am a company of one, and my personal, work and volunteer lives have a lot of overlap. Some friends email me work things to my business account, some volunteer things land in my personal, etc. Without having one place I can see everything I miss things. I’ve tried to separate them, but people just type your name and hit enter without looking when composing so it is what it is. If I ever get a “real” job I would enforce the boundary.

@ParadeGrotesque @jalefkowit With the same battery. I stand by my stance that the calculator watch is the height of wearable technology.

@ParadeGrotesque I do this with my Synology NAS, and I don't even have anything critical. I do sync the pelicanSSG theme I use for others, but that's about it.Relying on free service for "mission critical" projects is a really bad idea.

@neglesaks I’ve been using DuckDuckGo for a while, but still have to google to find things too. But the thing from google is usually on the 4th or 5th page, so I just skip there from the start.

I haven't come across a Canadian version of this project, but by my personal preference metrics, daylight saving time is the "best" version, it would mean that for MORE of the USA there would always be a reasonable sunrise and sunset.#daylightsavings #dst #time

I have a technical Windows question for everyone here.Is there a tool that will track the changes that an install file makes to a system, and then compare the state if I remove the software (with the included removal).I want to test to see how much "extra" is left from installing various ICS software and IDEs.#ICS #ControlSystems #SCADA

I'm thinking about doing a third party review series of different protection and control platforms, then move into SCADA and maybe PLCs. But one of the things that I want to rate is the vendor bloatware impact, and I don't know of a controlled way to do that.

@kyle Quick hosting question, do you self-host at home, or use cloud/hosting service. If hosting service, which do you use and why? I'm planning to migrate some of my locally hosted services at some point, but the abundance of choice is daunting.

Has anyone come across a Flickr sync script/program that is easy to automate/configure?The closest I've found is uploadr.pyhttps://github.com/ept/uploadr.pyIdeally I would like to sync specific folders and metadata with either setting files or options. It needs to be something I can place on a headless server and run in the background (either with a daemon or cronjob). If I can't find anything I will fork/tweak this uploadr.py as a starting point.Boosts appreciated!#flickr

@helenczerski I assume you’ve heard of this project - https://metals.co/nori/ and how they’ve partnered with a tiny ocean nation that was basically destroyed from mining and left with nothing. Now they want to scrap the ocean floor for nodules that have rare metals. It’s a bad idea and with all luck will fail. I seem to remember a recent study showed that the nodules are active components in the ocean for oxygen creation, but can’t find a link to the study at the moment.

@helenczerski I found the article, funded by TMC, could be acting like batteries and causing a reaction that produces oxygen. https://eos.org/articles/metallic-nodules-create-oxygen-in-the-oceans-abyss

Tomorrow is compost day and I already see a tree on the street. We will keep our tree up til “old Christmas”, something my grandmother insisted on when she was alive. Does anyone else do this? Or is it just something my Nanny did because that’s what they did growing up?#Christmas #Traditions
