Apparently if they (teenage boys) were on TikTok, for instance and the service identified the user as a teenage male then Andrew Tate videos were served up to them PDQ all ready for grooming.

“ Far-right online influencers position themselves as "self-help" gurus, ready to offer advice on making money, working out, or attracting female attention. But it's a bait-&-switch. Rather than getting good advice on money/health, audiences are hit with pitches for cryptocurrency scams or useless-but-expensive supplements. Even worse, rather than being offered genuine guidance on how to be more appealing to women, they're encouraged to blame women — especially feminism — for their dating woes.

2/ “The average band D bill in London this year is £1,696, compared with £2,060 in the north of England. The average house price in the capital is £553,000, against £192,000 in the north. Eight of the ten cheapest council tax rates in England are in London or the southeast, and none are in the north.”

3/“ The borough of Westminster in central London has the cheapest band D rate, at only £866 per year. The most expensive is in Rutland in the East Midlands, at £2,300 a year. One explanation for the differences is that many cities in the Midlands and northern England have greater proportions of smaller A and B homes.”

“ This makes it harder for their councils to keep the lower-rated bands affordable. Often these areas also have higher levels of deprivation, which puts a greater demand on local authority resources. In London, councils have other ways to raise revenue.”

V interesting birdsite 🧵 by @scienceisstrat1 6 Toot 🧵 1/. A household fridge uses more energy in a year than the average person in some African countries (eg Kenya, Nairobi, Ethiopia). Africa will remain poor unless it uses more energy. “How energy poverty causes huge suffering in Africa, and how low-cost renewables could help accelerate the push to electrify Africa. 590 million people, or about half of sub-Saharan Africans, currently do not have access to electricity. “

2/. “Partially as a result of extreme energy poverty, per capita incomes in sub-Saharan Africa are a tiny fraction of levels in most of the rest of the world. Per capita income just over $3k a year.It is perhaps no surprise that African per capita emissions of CO2 are currently a tiny fraction of what they are in the rest of the worldAfrica’s cumulative emissions per capita are also minuscule, barely registering as compared with other major countries and continents. “

3/. “ Energy poverty has a devastating impact on education in Africa (source: @WorldBank). Energy poverty also dramatically limits the availability of cold storage in Africa. This had a deleterious impact on Africa’s ability to distribute C-19 vaccines, and has negative consequences for the provision of health care in Africa more generally. Energy poverty also has a negative impact on food security in Africa, contributing to lower agricultural productivity and increased food spoilage.”

4/. “Energy poverty has also restricted Africa’s ability to build a manufacturing economy, despite having access to low cost labor and being physically proximate to major markets. On the plus side, Africa has greater solar power potential than any other continent - by far. The radical decline in the cost of solar and battery storage make the technologies increasingly viable as an option to close the energy deficit in many African countries.”

5/. “ The decline in solar power costs has already led to a huge surge in off-grid solar solutions spreading throughout Africa, esp solar lighting. In terms of solar energy installation, the majority of solar deployment in Africa has occurred in just one country, South AfricaAfrica also has significant wind resources in large parts of the continent despite low current capacity (6.5 GW as of 2020). “Annual average wind speeds in N Africa & Southern Africa are high, reaching 7m per sec.”

6/ “ As an example of what’s coming, Egypt just signed a deal to build one of the world’s largest wind farms:▫️ 10-GW onshore plant by 2030Egyptian government will buy the power, some of which will be exported to Europe, Saudi Arabia, Sudan & LibyaWhy is this all important, above & beyond the obvious reasons?Keep in mind that Africa already has 1.3 bill people. But according to UN forecasts, that number is set to radically increaseAfrica’s future will in many ways be humanity’s future.

2/ Zahawi’s lawyers, Osborne Clarke, threatened to pursue a libel action @DanNeidle if he did not restrict his allegations of tax avoidance, and what also looked likely to be tax evasion. A SLAP letter. So Dan Neidle referred them to the legal Regulator who said such letters in these circumstances were improper. Back story herehttps://www.taxpolicy.org.uk/2022/12/02/sra_oc/

3/ But that still means that Zahawi, who has held several ministerial rôles, including Chancellor of the Exchequer diddled the taxpayer out of several million £ tax.Paying tax is for the little people.Did this stop Sunak appointing him as Minister Without Portfolio or the Tories appointing him as Chairman of the Tory Party? No.

5/For those unfamiliar with the backstory, @danneidle laid it out here back in July 2022.He’s been a TOP man on this and done the taxpayer a massive multi million £ favour. And all those who try to expose wrong doing who have been blackmailed into silence by rich people trying to silence them using power, lawyers and SLAP letters to hide their illegality.https://www.taxpolicy.org.uk/2022/07/10/zahawi/

I saw this touching letter on the birdsite from a husband to an hairstylist who cut his wife’s hair. His wife had dementia but so loved her haircut. It made her feel pretty.
