@redwhitebluedude @ThomasWic @Ozzytrumpster Cairo produces a lot of Mafia-style films like they are stuck in the 1980’s, and OTT romantic comedies. They are known for comedy in particular. The most popular TV station (fee paying) is a Saudi one that shows American movies!

@watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 my son is 14 and his friends in Scouts are 14 to 17 yrs and all fairly conservative. This could be because they are scouts, because we live overseas in Cairo, or any number of factors. My son likes Trump and yet his Egyptian classmates are mostly all brainwashed to hate Trump (yet they are racist against Africans and they want Israel destroyed) Living overseas has made him MORE conservative since he has seen how much better the U.S. is than elsewhere.

@karnage @Josephcdickerson Yes to Dirty Dozen! I told my teenage son I would show him DD after we suffered through the SS reboot last week on HBO Max. It is painfully bad, with a nonsense plot, gore, and characters I hated. Gunn blew a bunch of money on slo-mo camera effects and giant sets. The Guardians films at least had Chris Pratt's goofy schtick going for them and decent characters.

@Debradelai when I was younger, idealistic (i.e. naive) and still a Democrat, I wanted to work for the State Department. I took the test and passed but never made it to an interview. The rank-and-file FSO’s that I have met are decent people, but the higher-ups seem rotten AND incompetent! I do pray that all the Americans in Kabul get out safely. They’ve got bigger things to worry about than covid, like escaping unharmed.

@ThomasWic Another excellent thread, thank you! There is soo much disinfo out there and people in doom-gloom mode, saying "oh the Chinese are going to control everything! They will take over!" I just think, "They can try but they will fail." They have had their asses handed to them in skirmishes at the LAC with India, and the Gulf Arabs mean business. :)
