I've often heard that "Gen Z is the most conservative youth generation in a long time" Does any of our data guys have any numbers to prove this? seems like since they started voting, we got the squad, hiden/cumqueenla, 3 branches of democrat gov. etc.Just curious what the numbers say@timr @Argentum47

@watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 My 22 year old granddaughter is very liberal (it’s only thing I would change about her, otherwise she’s perfect). 19 year old grandson leans right, but hated Trump- cause he s a war monger 🙄. 15 year old grandson very very conservative!

@watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 I have a 19yr old daughter and a 17yr old son. My daughter cares very little for politics. My son bounced around a lot on Trump. We live in Nor Cal. The indoctrination started in elementary school.

@watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 My two-cents as to why they may lean more conservative is that they were young, but old enough to see their parents struggle through the last financial crisis - losing homes, jobs, etc. They would have had to make sacrifices too - reality hit. Not as much coddling.

@watch4thedrop @Argentum47 Biden received 65% of the Gen Z vote. That isn't surprising. Support for conservative policies and a move away from the left wouldn't necessarily mean voting for Trump.Another Republican nominee and continuing disillusionment with the left and their extreme radicalism may well move that generation towards voting for a conservative. Also, the move to the right among my generation happened more often in our mid-late 20s. Not younger. I was an exception.

@Janeod2013 @watch4thedrop @Argentum47 Good points. For my generation, who first voted in the 80s, there was a strong and deliberate move away from the anger, violence cynicism and hysteria of the mid-60s-mid 70s.

@watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 my son is 14 and his friends in Scouts are 14 to 17 yrs and all fairly conservative. This could be because they are scouts, because we live overseas in Cairo, or any number of factors. My son likes Trump and yet his Egyptian classmates are mostly all brainwashed to hate Trump (yet they are racist against Africans and they want Israel destroyed) Living overseas has made him MORE conservative since he has seen how much better the U.S. is than elsewhere.

@timr @watch4thedrop @Argentum47 Also GenX here. For me, the choice was much simpler. As a child, my father hammered into me "NEVER trust a govt that wants to increase the welfare population".😃Of course, over the years, my understanding of American conservatism grew.

@watch4thedrop @Argentum47There has been a tendency to become more conservative with age and experience of life and work. It was true for the generation of young people in the 1930s, the FDR era, who were leftist at the time and became Eisenhower voters later. The hippies-to-yuppies theme was so common in the 80s that it became part of culture. The word yuppie implied a rejection of the recent past. @watch4thedrop @Argentum47 Now the left are so fanatical and so extreme that there is the potential for a rebellion among younger people that will send many younger people to look for other options. That will go beyond the rejection of disorder and violence that my generation largely rejected from the 60s and early 70s2/3

@watch4thedrop @Argentum47There will always be young people who are looking for meaning and want the freedom to speak and think for themselves. Now it is the right that allows that. The left forbids it. Free speech and independent thinking are punished. That extreme leftist dogmatism has its own destruction built into it3/3

@timr @watch4thedrop Only 65% voted for Biden? This is a more diverse generation. I figured the worst would have been 65-80%. Lots of leeway for them to go for the conservative in the future.

@Argentum47 @watch4thedrop In 1984, Reagan won 61% of voters in the 18-24 age group and 57% of voters in the 25-29 age group. That is how popular Reagan was. I was in the first group. 1984 was my first election. There is plenty of room for conservatives to move to the right. It will not be for Trump. But it may be for a candidate who shares Trump's policies and views.https://ropercenter.cornell.edu/how-groups-voted-1984

@EarlThePearls @watch4thedrop @timr @Argentum47 I wasn't of "sensible" age at that time, nor was I in the US, so I can't speak to that effect. Somewhat off-topic...I do remember that around 1982, in my country, an oil/natural gas, rich country...we suddenly ran out of oil, and found out all the oil $$ that should have been set aside for rainy days? Was sitting in Swiss bank accounts of the corrupt govt officials. 1/2
