@actualham " the right is not underrepresented in higher education; in fact, the opposite is true: The modern American university is a right-wing institution." They're not wrong.

@dangillmor I'm honestly still trying to find Mastodon's "steep learning curve" that is referenced in the article. The main difference seems to me to be the belief that a Twitter post will be widely circulated to those who are interested, via the algorithm, while in Mastodon it will be circulated to followers. But I feel this faith in the algorithm is misplaced, as distribution is interrupted by marketing and, increasingly, bots and political content, reducing a post's actual reach.

@ShaulaEvans @Wolven I searched but there appears to be no open access version. It is chapter 17 in this volume, currently pending publication: https://www.e-elgar.com/shop/gbp/handbook-on-the-ethics-of-artificial-intelligence-9781803926711.html ( List £190.00, Member £171.00)

@lightweight Yeah I need to do that, it's getting too expensive to send my email newsletter through mailgun (what I really need to do is to get all my services on a single server to really cut costs - maybe that's a holiday project)

@lightweight Are you still using Hetzner? I think they'd be leery of me sending a thousand emails a day

@lightweight Yeah, but it's a torrent compared to most people & might stand out even at a provider like Hetzner

@lightweight Yeah, I think there's basically a new floor price. I can afford it now, but I won't be able to afford it when my income goes down next year.

@lightweight I still want to get all of my applications on a single server though - multiple domain names, multiple services, all on one vps. So I don't need to spin up a new vps every time I want to add another function (that's just way too inefficient and costs more than I'll be able to afford next year).

@lightweight I found that trying to write Python scripts in a container on a VPS. No problem writing the script, but it isn't straightforward making it do things like read and write to external APIs and run Chromium (for automated browser actions).
