@stux Hi there. Thank you for sharing your time, effort and information.Could you share how much it costs to run Forum.fail? I'm trying to figure out my share of supporting the #federation #ecosystem, but have no idea of costs. My information on this topic is too out of date.h/w, s/w, bandwidth plus person-hours are all invisible to us ecosystem participants. What % of "USERS" are contributing monthly "donation" to the cost and upkeep of forum.fail?Do you think everyone who signs up for any instance should pay a monthly stipend to every instance they sign to? Is that the funding model you think will allow the #ActivityPub ecosystem to live and thrive? Can you advise a hashtag to use to find other thoughts and discussions on the topic of ActivityPub ecosystem financials?

@clive @yoasif Yes, good work describing an ecosystem service for a #SocialEcosystem. #Reddit is an extractive social ecosystem. The #Fediverse is trying to be a thriving, sustainable social ecosystem without being extractive.I've been trying to figure out what my share, in $$$ and/or labor, would need to be to make a #FediverseEcosystem work. Identifying ecosystem service types is important to figuring out how to make it sustainable while it grows.

@stux Could be like the schism of the Southern Baptists... Limiting federation with #ExtractiveSocialNetworks as a choice breaks the covenant and banishes the limiting servers. Allowing #actors to vote with their #resources by moving to servers that don't take extractive resources has a value equal to or greater than the choice of allowing federation with extractive social networks because the choice to move acts as an evolutionary force."Drinking" from the "sugar-water" of easy extractive-sourced money allows the #Ecosystem to develop a dependence on and organizing force around the sugar-water and quenches the #Evolutionary forces for creating the elements of an alternative #SocialEcosystems or #FederatedEcosystems that don't require "sugar-water" (#Extractive sources).Thank you for sharing what is known so far.

@stux Thank you for all you do and the passion you bring to the environment. FWIW, I don't believe you are bribed."Default deny" is an excellent security stance. Allow the time to develop an ecosystem service for metering the number of connections per unit time a new instance connecting to the Fediverse can start with. Sort of a reverse TCP retransmission congestion avoidance mechanism. Another ecosystem service might be detecting siphoning content.Default deny allows some human time for response.

@futurebird Huh... mine was purchased in the last couple of years. Gave away my family sized one and got this one, so I could make smaller amounts.Perhaps yours was purchased longer ago with older instructions? Checked my manual, which includes recipes, tables, etc instructions down to 0.5 cups.Half a cup works. Maybe go with weighing out half the provided cups: 3 oz for rice you'll rinse, 2.9 oz for rinse-free rice. My cooker insert has a line for 0.5. If yours doesn't maybe get a replacement insert?

@futurebird Agree about the overall size vs cabinet/counter space. Payment for rice perfection, alas.

@futurebird And, increasingly for us older folks, unresponsive. With age comes less moisture in the fingertips. Plus a lifetime of regular typing changes fingertip skin density-- calluses. Yes, 50+ years in tech most at a keyboard of some type creates fingertip calluses. Getting a response from a touch surface has become more difficult. Sometimes I have to touch something damp before touching a surface interface to get a response. Sometimes my thenar eminence is required to get any response-- not very precise.I wonder if musicians have a similar problem?

@futurebird A friend had a very intelligent way of doing this, I thought:Starting with texting, he made clear (and followed through) that he would be able to see and review every text sent/received from first receipt of phone (end of elementary school) to age 16. Same with social media. They had a regular time to review and discuss. It also gave them a language and space to talk about pretty much any growing up topics, too.
