@elliswyatt @stux I didn't need the parenthetical notes. The majority of polled (but maybe not voting) Americans demand our laws reflect our values that balances for a collective good. Society is demanding that we steer away from a military state. People with guns kill people. Remove or set up a very strict screening process for need ASAP. Society should not allow just anyone with a gun. 2A is about militia. Join the National Guard.

@raccoonformality @kevinrns I don't disagree FL is a hellscape. I've lived here for 7 years.But, DeathSantis can be stopped. Many school districts ignore him. I live in Broward. My kid's HS, while not the hotbed of progression, has bigger fish to fry and hasn't played along. She graduates this year thankfully. You are right though. Push back needs to be strong and swift. "Normal" parents need to start getting involved and be visible about it.

@mongoose The thing about FL is all the crazy you see is for the cameras. Not to say the crazies dont exist but they would out back with jethro smoothing their mullets shooting beer cans and just running at the mouth like they used to if not for opportunistic political actors. In my opinion, if a parent is OK with books they have access to them. At Barnes and Noble (huge bookstore chain) they have "Banned Book" displays. So many people use Barnes and Noble like a library.

@mongoose I still can't wrap my head around how we got here. The outrage isnt the act DeathSantis is performing but that people dont care. "I dont like politics." is a common phrase. I dont like my house on fire either but I have to put it out. I'm convinced America is a fraud. Our country is like 2 hours old comparatively. Too many are convinced we win a prize bc 1 out if 1000 people can overcome the bullshit and succeed. Better ofds if youre white.

@shannonsays I started on the hellsite wondering why I wasn't getting follows. A common ideology there is more followers=happiness.For me, I learned that's not what made me happy. So I've approached the fedi differently.Boost away and ask others to if that's your jam. I'm really not sure if that technique will work in this forum. Good luck!
