Folks, did you know that building more things next to a Metro station makes it less accessible?

@IMGoph @LhasaCM Just call this “parking-oriented transit” and everyone leaves happy.

@LhasaCM @IMGoph To @fakesharrows point, some honesty from that letter writer would be welcome. They just don’t want more people in their neighborhood. The current state of the neighborhood is as it should always be, and projects like this will turn it into something different, and that’s unwelcome. But instead, you get a defense of a crummy surface parking lot and an argument against allowing hundreds more people the opportunity of living adjacent to a transit node.

Because of reasons I drove our car to Shaw tonight, and I really don’t know how people do things like that on a regular basis. I’d be on edge and angry all the time to if that was what I had to deal with. Goodness knows I have my issues with transit here, but driving in this city is an awful, awful experience.

@peter Everyone is angry, jockeying for position etc. But worse, literally *anything* that impedes their forward momentum is a problem. I think there’s this fundamental belief that “car = fast” and anything that prevents that is just unacceptable.

@peter @IMGoph Oh my gosh, yes. I’m confident that implicit messaging is what leads people to circle blocks repeatedly looking for that elusive space even when a parking garage is right there.

An un(der)reported issue with Bowser et al’s push to bring workers back downtown is the continued dreadful state of transit here. If I had a reliable, efficient way to get into the office each day I wouldn’t mind as much. But that isn’t the system we have.

Anyway, my Hot Take on this is that you can’t really ever expect the downtown workforce to come anywhere close to pre-pandemic levels without a reliable, functional transit system.

Maybe there is more household trash-dumping coming from multi unit buildings—I dunno. But there are multiple SFH residents in our nhood who *routinely* dump their garbage into the street can. One guy walks a full block to do it. I’ve seen workers/contractors do it, too. This is not just an issue for multi unit buildings.

It hit home to me recently how long it had been since we had lived in Logan (spoiler: 12 years) because I realized I didn’t know/hadn’t heard of 90% of the bars, restaurants and businesses that are there now. I guess a dozen years is a lifetime in terms of business turnover.

@acdha Yeah, makes sense. A lot of the “new” places that opened while we were there—spots like Masa 14 and Policy—have made way for the next generation of spots. And in ten years it’ll all probably turn over again.
