       Because of reasons I drove our car to Shaw tonight, and I really don’t know how people do things like that on a regular basis. I’d be on edge and angry all the time to if that was what I had to deal with. Goodness knows I have my issues with transit here, but driving in this city is an awful, awful experience.

       @peter Everyone is angry, jockeying for position etc. But worse, literally *anything* that impedes their forward momentum is a problem. I think there’s this fundamental belief that “car = fast” and anything that prevents that is just unacceptable.

       @peter @BenHarris_1 I car commuted from Providence to Waltham for three years (~1-1.5 hours each way). I almost lost my mind, and I was in constant pain from sitting so much. I'm literally healthier 15 years later.

       @peter @BenHarris_1 there needs to be a complete set of reeducation camps for every single American about what driving accomplishes and what it doesn’t.First, ban commercials that show cars blasting through empty downtown streets.Then, a national campaign that has to include culturally-relevant people telling folks that cars are useful *only*,if you don’t want to walk and don’t want to be around other people. Hammer home the fact that they are actually slower than other means of transport.

       @peter @BenHarris_1 I got nothing against movies, but we banned cigarette ads and liquor ads in a lot of places because we knew they encouraged shitty outcomes.
