@Consoomer88 @randbot @AnFashSchizo This is the problem with American military doctrine though, it relies on all these expensive, specialized weapons that only work if you have a bajillion-dollar financial lead over the opponent. Just because a weapon fits a niche that would be really nice to have in combat doesn't mean it makes sense logistically. Especially if there are cheaper solutions, mortars for instance would be a good alternative for this doctrinal role. Of course, there are problems with using unguided systems in urban combat but that just underlines the pointlessness of the wars America fights—if one of your biggest priorities in a combat zone is reducing civilian casualties, the war probably isn't worth fighting.

@Consoomer88 @randbot @AnFashSchizo Your position is very much understandable as someone who has actually been at war, and of course, you probably know far more about the details of infantry combat than I do. But, everything I know about war shows that it is an economic struggle, and being careful with what you spend money on is essential if you aren't the US. So, yeah, that is probably an irreconcilable difference in viewpoints.The relationship between the US military and civilian casualties always seemed weird to me, I have heard stories of combat operations being seriously hampered by ROE, but at the same time, they had no qualms with bombing the shit of civilian areas from a distance. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

@Ghislaine Watching these combat videos always seems weird to me because they don't do what I would expect at all. Like, after encountering a tank you would think whoever was in charge should give the order to high tail it out of there but they sort of just dawdle around firing in the general direction of the enemy.
