@futurebird How is linear algebra taught? I learned it as part of the GSCE/A-Level curriculum and it was not taught well - it was taught purely as matrix manipulations and would not be taught as anything else until my *second* college linear algebra course.

@futurebird With things like Cramer's rule systematizing linear equations, motivation for why we gaf about determinants, why matriz multiplication works the way it does, etc.?(As a TA, I loved using crypto-category theory to explain linear algebra to second-years, drawing an analogy between studying the real numbers and their metric properties through studying differentiable functions and studying vector spaces through studying linear transformations.)

@futurebird At @eta_ny we're working on a report on how to drop all these bullshit NYPD PSAs from the subway so that passengers aren't bombarded with noisy "be afraid" lines. Yeah, Adams thought it was very important that the trains play these "there are cops on the platform" messages. He's a lame duck and also the MTA is a state agency and doesn't actually need to do what an idiot mayor asks.

@madies @sorenhave @niels It's run by national operators with bilateral or multilateral agreements elsewhere - for example, that's how TGVs run into Germany and ICEs run into France on the LGV Est. This is something DB, DSB, and SJ can figure out - even if there's just one Danish stop, DSB should be involved because it benefits Danish travelers to have fast access to Hamburg and Sweden. (The other solution is Thalys/Eurostar but it's designed to be expensive, targeting business travelers only.)

@futurebird I asked on Bluesky, and was told that gen AI has a problem with coherent physics, which is why it can't make complete films yet. (It may be able to do frame interpolation, but so far I haven't seen artists work with it, instead of managers try to use it to eliminate artists.)

I forget if I ever pushed an update about China explicitly thinking about using these to bolster its own strategic strike force.
