I think the actual gravity of what happened to Kiwifarms is lost on a lot of people, it established a precedent that the companies that operate the building blocks of the Internet can and will ban people from owning a website if they don't like them.In short all Internet access is now subject to the exact same censorship as Twitter, YouTube and Twitch are. If you are at all dissatisfied with the censorship on those sites you should be up in arms about what Keffals and Liz Fong Jones have done.Kiwifarms didn't break AUP and it didn't break the law yet there is no appeals process, LFJ gives the word and your site goes down.If a company like Facebook somehow bought the Internet everybody would be freaking out about how the free Internet was over... so why not now?

Really the one thing that holds me back from using the fediverse more is just how rough around the edges w/ the UI, algorithm and how tweets are displayed. In short Twitter is just generally a better user experience even with the heavy content restrictions.

To be fair I don't hate this policy, primarily because it might be the only way Elon could even have free speech and keep the site afloat at the same time. But what Elon says is also pretty vague, ideally this would mean: - Tweet is flagged for genuine "hate speech" - Post is "deboosted" as in if a person likes or retweets it, it won't shov up on timelines like it usually does unless you already follow the person. This would probably be the best case scenario for what Elon is describing but it could be much worse, for example: - Tweet doesn't need to be flagged, AI determined - Hate speech can include pretty much fucking anything (so basically just "old twitter")- Full shadowbanning of individual tweets OR account wide "deboosting" or worse account wide shadowbanning basically what we have now. So in summary I think if these 3 main bullet points are met I'm okay with this: - Deboosting is not full on shadowbanning - Hate speech is clearly defined and is not used as a vague tool to punish people for joking, simply being mean, slurs, etc. - Deboosting is not account wide I'm not saying Elon will or won't follow these points, I'm just laying out what I think are the potential options here and I'm going to reserve my judgement until the changes actually happen. Sperg post on Kiwifarms and doxing:The only people that I believe should be held accountable for a doxing is the doxer(s) and potentially as well anyone who could be considered an accomplice or directly part of the op, though I do think there are exceptions like for example J Aubrey's involvement in the JustDestiny dox, I think he's fine to move past that.I think the key here is to establish the difference between doxing and posting previously doxed information. I would describe doxing as having 3 main stages:- Stage 1: The actual doxing, usually takes place in private, discord, google hangouts, skype, etc.- Stage 2: The initial posting of the dox, usually on sites like the so called "site zero".- Stage 3: Reposting of the now publicly available information, which is what certain Kiwifarmers are guilty of. Obviously there comes a point where doxed information might become so mainstream that this isn't even applicable anymore, say in the case of Pyrocynical's face or Mister Metokur's name.Basically my stance is if somebody posts now already doxed information (stage 3) to your site I don't think you have any obligation to police it to avoid responsibility.On the other hand IF hypothetically Kiwifarms marketed itself as being for posting doxes to (like "site zero" does) it could be held accountable, especially if it was established as being the medium for stage 2 doxing as described above.I think a large part of the problem here is that once information gets out there it's very hard to contain, people post doxed information to Twitter, Reddit, and even YouTube all the time and nobody gives a fuck, it's the same principle really.

Update: I did get a testimony from Nick stating that it was obvious to him that what I tweeted was a joke, that he didn’t feel threatened and that he thinks Twitter should lift the suspension.I sent screenshots of that to Twitter through the appeal system, I got an email back saying they added it to my previous appeal and will “continue to review w/ the new information”. I’m not sure if that means they actually read it or not but either way I haven’t been reinstated or heard back from them aside from that automated response.I want to publicly extend my thanks to Nick for giving his statement, he could have just as easily ignored the email so I’m appreciative he took the time to do that.So really the only thing I can do from here is wait, later down the line maybe I’ll resubmit an appeal again with all the information compiled together and we’ll see what happens.
