I think the actual gravity of what happened to Kiwifarms is lost on a lot of people, it established a precedent that the companies that operate the building blocks of the Internet can and will ban people from owning a website if they don't like them.In short all Internet access is now subject to the exact same censorship as Twitter, YouTube and Twitch are. If you are at all dissatisfied with the censorship on those sites you should be up in arms about what Keffals and Liz Fong Jones have done.Kiwifarms didn't break AUP and it didn't break the law yet there is no appeals process, LFJ gives the word and your site goes down.If a company like Facebook somehow bought the Internet everybody would be freaking out about how the free Internet was over... so why not now?

Early stage "Not in my backyard"-ism is definitely at play here. A lot of people either don't know much about what KF is/was, or they just found the site vile and don't care if it went down. As long as the things THEY stand behind remain "safe" from this, they could care less if this happens hundreds of times. Most people are stupid and short-sighted. They look at this from the angle that these same tactics will never fall into the hands of those opposed to them. They believe that "their" internet will never be subject to being shut down on a whim, and hell perhaps they are right. They could care less about the greater implications of internet censorship as long as THEIR stuff is not. But history has shown a lot of "protected" types become tomorrow's game birds as soon as winds change. TL:DR because it happened to bad site bad, and of course could never happen to anything <insert social justice or political movement> cares about, or to Amazon/Google/Netflix/Facebook, it doesn't matter.

Yeah of course but I wasn't really expecting that demographic to give much of a shit anyway.I'm mostly talking about the people who are in this general sphere (or adjacent ones) that were against Keffals and have now decided to quietly back down or even act cordially with her so they can be on good terms.

I don't think Keffals has as much a hand in it as people think. Don't get me wrong, he is definitely a vile grifting dramawhoring faggot, but all of his "power" comes from his connections with people like Dong Gone Jones and other tech-troons who have managed to secure an unbalanced amount of power for such a small overall demographic. Those connections mean that if anyone goes hard, they will be silenced just like Josh is/was. That is what the internet, a platform designed to be open and nearly ungovernable, has become. In a few short months, Josh has went from a man about to exist solely on a niche website to a man on the verge of shutting it all down and taking a "normie" job somewhere, all because this "open, ungovernable" internet is susceptible to a network of weak ass-sniffers in various tech companies calling in favors with each other. I applaud him for being literally the only one in the "sector" to have a backbone, but he just didn't have the resources or friendly journos to convince the normies they should give a shit what was happening to him.So I think they are acting cordially because survival of their online presence means more to them than drawing an Alamo-like line in the sand. If anyone was expecting someone like Keemstar to be their standard bearer, they were deluding themselves. The only way I see that changing is if this network bites off more than they can chew and attacks someone like a Tucker Carleson or even a Babylon Bee who have both the resources and name-clout to pull up the rock and reveal all the ants scurrying beneath. Keffals was throwing Tucker's name out there a bit, but suddenly stopped and hasn't mentioned it since. I don't wonder why.

It really does feel like there needs to be a new internet or something to be able to resolve this. It’s really dire.Freedom of speech is not just a right. It is a philosophy, one that less and less people believe in. It is a valuable code of ethics that teaches us to listen and understand others.Really sad :(All we can do for now is enjoy the little havens we have left.
