@jwz Still true? There was a big overhaul of Muni metro control systems in the late '90s. Did not go smoothly to say the least! But, at least, I would expect that was the end of the original floppy based programming.

@grammargirl @Seth Yeah, the generalization seems to be logically backwards, but it feels like if you can move around in a vehicle, you say you're on it. Vehicles where you take a seat and can't move, you say you're in. Except for small things like bikes and snowmobiles, those you also say "on" for (or a horse!), but that seems more literally correct. I think the vehicles that you say you're "on" are things that you historically had to go up some steps or a ramp to get on, like planes, ships, and trains, so you're "on" an elevated platform of sorts.I have a PhD in linguistics, but I'm still just talking out my ass here.

@todayilearned @gutenberg_org rocks. I have a B&N Nook but mostly I use it for free eBooks.I also rooted it, but you don't have to do that to read PG books on it. That was just for fun.

Not sure what the point of a publicity event is if you don't tell anyone about it ahead of time? Maybe they just wanted a photo-op for press and politicians without a mob of railfans.

I want to grab a bunch of those plushes to make make an actual plushie EMU trainset. Need two of them they are for the ends. Each trainset has two non-cab cars in the middle? For each of those, I could splice the rear ends of two cab-car plushies. So I guess I need 6. But with 4 I could make a cutified 3-car train.
