RE: https://hachyderm.io/@samhenrigold/116216357692725093The MacBook Neo is an important, landmark device. You just don’t know it yet. I say this as someone for whom the sheen of Apple has worn off, and I’ll look to move to different, open hardware in the coming years.A good read from Sam.

@SecurityWriter if so, there is a commercially avaliable open hardware laptop that runs like Linux "Debian-Like" with like 8 or 16 gigs of ram?

@older @Pibert @mntmn The problem is that the NMT device is twice the price for 28% of the performance of the Neo. Even with less RAM it still has faster memory and storage, better cache, better bandwidth and IO, better graphics performance, better screen, keyboard, touchpad, and better battery life. That’s a really hard sell to even the keenest tinkerer.I can see it being the hot new Linux machine with a large enough user base. Fingers crossed.

@SecurityWriter @older @Pibert my 2 cents:- our keyboard is superior as it is fully mechanical with open firmware and system controller OLED UI- our device is fully modular incl cpu/gpu/ram/ssd/wifi/ios/input/batteries(!) and won't be an unrepairable, unupgradeable brick in a few years. what about TCO?- neo has only 2x usb-c for IO (lol).- independence from big tech, open source design files- the neo with 512gb ssd is 799eur here. the next is gonna be 50% more maybe?- Q-8750 is coming

@SecurityWriter @older @Pibert coincidentally, q-8570 (i just got the first samples of it) and apple 18 pro have a very similar passmark score. the apple chip seems to have faster single core perf though.

@SecurityWriter @older @Pibert also we won't post slop images of our own products :D (edit: tbf it's _probably_ just a weird filter/AI upscaling, not fully genAI)
