@strypey the fact that most of them are not in fact freely available was surprising to me

@wxhbxh @strypey Yes, the ISO funding model sucks and is terribly outdated. Often there are ways to get around the pricing issue, depending on circumstances. I have worked in the international standards communities (geospatial) for quite a few years now. Perhaps I could answer some questions?

@ByronCinNZ oh I was just reading up on them because I was curious. As a lowly CS undergrad I knew of them mostly from stuff like ANSI C and ISO 8601. I was wondering how many of these standards there actually are...It seems the answer is quite a lot, of which only a small fraction are freely accessible to the public?Thank you. Your expertise is appreciated.

It seems the answer is quite a lotISO are one of the oldest technical standards organisation still in existence, and unlike IETF or W3C, they don't just do digital standards;https://www.iso.org/standards-catalogue/browse-by-ics.htmlSo yeah, a lot : )@ByronCinNZ

@wxhbxh> that's what I was reading :)I figured. I like to chuck in useful links for those who stumble on a post out of the context of the thread. Especially since not everyone who can see my posts can see yours.I believe Mastodon shipped code to pull in all posts in a thread, even from accounts not followed by anyone on that server. But I'm not sure all fediverse software has done the same.> Perhaps I should've been clearer with my past tense hereOr chucked that link into your OP? : )

@strypey I've been using Fread, which *can* I believe do that, though I haven't actually tested the featureInstead I post to mastodon and let Skymoth do the x-posting (only own posts and replies to self though)And am on blacksky (cryptoanarchy.network PDS + vanity URL) rather than bluesky proper Slightly jank setup perhaps but it works for me 🤷🏻♀️
