       Why can't hi-fi setup use normal studio cables!/me grumbles because there's not enough XLR-XLR cables in the house even after raiding @wolfy's stash.

       I feel like I'm doing something very weird but I'm not an audio guy. From my engineering POV if a preamp has a XLR output and my speakers have XLR inputs then it's good enough. Yes, I don't have a volume control knob at all but my speakers have ethernet-managed DSP for a reason!Something something sennheiser software being windows only ugh. There's https://github.com/schwinn/khtool but it can't find my speakers.It's probably not an audio problem but VLANs getting in the way./me takes off the headphones and wears a netops hat because clearly you need to figure mDNS before you can play the matrix score. Should have tried playing Bach instead, clearly.

       @lbruno UK :-D mind that it literally seems easier to go to Belfast and back. For now I'm shopping with Kronos AV and the experience was mixed. Got a few things off hhv.de and they seem more decent (and EU) so maybe try them first.

       @lbruno that’s what I’m building too! I started with vinyl and I skipped EQ because I spend much less time at home and my Neumanns are collecting dust and they are great studio speakers with built in EQ. I know it’s not true HiFi to use active speakers but hey!

       @lbruno yeah, I go between mic/instrument pretty often and it gets very annoying when your instrument outputs both based on the connection (looking at you Yamaha).My plan is to hook up the vinyl preamp to the speakers. I studied the datasheet for long enough to conclude it will just work. If it won’t, duh, i’ll need an XLR amp.There’s no power amp in my setup as i don’t drive passive speakers.
