On forking the #Web:- How do we make sure it doesn't end up like this one?- Are you willing to pay directly or you prefer to continue paying indirectly via surveillance?- Why leaving older machines out wouldn't be considered discrimination?- What are your accessibility favourite DOIs?Treat for thought: https://sessa.bandcamp.com/album/pequena-vertigem-de-amor

@dillo 1) someone thinks that can solve that with the Gemini protocol. Others think that a "small web" approach is a preferable solution.2) Probably a mix of both. Ads can be acceptable if they are not intrusive. Surveillance capitalism should be banned.3) It would be nice to reuse the old hardware for as long as possible.4) What is a DOIs?

@zbrando I'm afraid neither Gemini, Gopher or the "small web" would fix the current problems with LLM crawling bots or slop content, which could also surface there eventually.> What is a DOIs?A "DOI" is an identifier used to locate research papers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_object_identifier.

@dillo @zbrando is there anything we can do against LLM crawling ? and is it actually a good idea to even try to do anything about it ? (i am against locking out information even if it is to block datamining)actually I think our ad-free unmonetizable small web can be pretty resilient against slop content, if there's no money to be made there's no reason to make excessive slop (and slop really is a search engine problem, we need to figure out search engines)
