Good news, we have a new website on EU soil 🎉 https://dillo-browser.org/And a Git web frontend (cgit) that works well with #Dillo:https://git.dillo-browser.org/If all goes well, we will be moving the rest of the components away from GitHub.Many thanks to all the donors that have made this posible, hopefully we can keep the lights on for some more years:https://liberapay.com/dillo/

All bug trackers seem to be too complicated, so I made one myself in less than 300 lines. I imported the issues from GitHub and it seems to work well in #Dillo and #links2.https://bug.dillo-browser.org/Issues are stored in plain Markdown files with some special headers in a git repository. They get rendered to HTML when pushing a new commit to the bugtracker repo. The whole thing is less than 300 lines of shell script and awk. It uses no javascript or databases.

Looking for a lightweight CLI fedi/mastodon client while I fix brutaldon OAuth on #Dillo.Preferably with _very low_ RAM usage. For reference, toot(1) (written in Python) uses more than three times as much memory as Dillo.

Demo of the new dilloc command, which allows sending commands to #Dillo via a UNIX socket. It can show metadata and perform actions, but also read and modify the current page HTML using standard command line tools.

Migrating #Dillo from GitHub to our self-hosted server. :blobcatcookienom: I wrote a post about the current situation with #GitHub and how we ended up self-hosting our own infrastructure to be robust against data loss. We now store all important data (including issues) in git repositories which are replicated accross #Codeberg and #Sourcehut.https://dillo-browser.org/news/migration-from-github/

Here is a new proposal on how to include OpenPGP signatures in HTML documents and verify them from the browser itself:https://dillo-browser.org/rfc/006-signatures-html/It shouldn't be too hard to implement in #Dillo and offload the verification to an external program like GnuPG.CC @tomasino

@justine @rl_dane there are two types of "emojis": custom and unicode emojis. Custom emojis are shown as images, so no problem with those.Unicode emojis will only be shown if the font in which they are displayed includes the unicode glyph for that emoji. Typically this never happens, so you get the "square".What is missing is font substitution which tries to find the emoji in other fallback fonts. This is fixed in newer versions of FLTK and I'm working on upgrading it.

@justine @rl_dane in the meanwhile, you could place the emoji in a span tag with a Emoji font. That should work in any version of Dillo and FLTK provided that you have the Emoji font.

@evgandr @yoasif @rl_dane some tips for Dillo:- Many sites become readable after rdrview, see https://git.dillo-browser.org/plugins/rdrview/about/- Silos like YouTube, Reddit or Medium usually have alternative frontends that work without JS, see https://farside.link/ and https://alex.envs.net/- To play YouTube or other multimedia files, here is a guide to offload to MPV: https://dillo-browser.org/topic/playing-multimedia/

Introducing page actions.Custom commands can now be executed from the page context menu. Combined with the new dilloc tool, it allows users to arbitrarily manipulate the current page. Here are some examples:- Using curl impersonate to bypass browser detection.- Replace current page by the output of rdrview (reader mode).- Per-page custom fixes by URL.

"If you are a normal visitor and you expected actual content instead of this page, then use a normal, up-to-date browser. It's that simple. [...] You'll have to use another, normal browser. I'm sorry for the inconvenience."Is 2026 the year of accurate bot protection?

Hi @brewsterkahle,Is there a reason why the Archive.org (also searching the Wayback Machine) cannot be used without JS? It excludes people with older computers from using the site as modern web browsers require a lot of resources. It used to work in the past, but now it doesn't anymore. Could you consider keeping at least the search and download functionality without requiring JS?Thanks!

@anthropy what about the irony of not being able to load the GitHub issue I opened about it without JS? 🥲 https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/34241See also:https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/6186PS: I use bloat to access mastodon when I'm on my older computers, no JS required: https://git.freesoftwareextremist.com/bloatThere is also snac for no-JS server instance: https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2

On forking the #Web:- How do we make sure it doesn't end up like this one?- Are you willing to pay directly or you prefer to continue paying indirectly via surveillance?- Why leaving older machines out wouldn't be considered discrimination?- What are your accessibility favourite DOIs?Treat for thought: https://sessa.bandcamp.com/album/pequena-vertigem-de-amor

@zbrando I'm afraid neither Gemini, Gopher or the "small web" would fix the current problems with LLM crawling bots or slop content, which could also surface there eventually.> What is a DOIs?A "DOI" is an identifier used to locate research papers: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_object_identifier.
