Linux comes at you fast, one minute you just want off the Microsoft plantation, the next you are learning about ricing Hyprland and trying to decide if you want to make that your weekend project.

@Jagahati please do not post about your "window manager" journey.

@Richard Aww! But what if it’s really cool? I’m using Cosmic now for both work and home which is like “Baby’s first TWM”.The camel’s nose is in the tent.

@souldessin I actually wrote what I considered to be a fairly cool bash script today.

@Jagahati @Richard idk if it counts if I only run arch in VM. My daily driver is KDE Ubuntu. I chose that for compatibility with proton and some other reasons, but arch is probably great now.

@Jagahati Welcome! Welcome! Make yourself comfortable. Don't forget to make a git repo to keep them moving through your systems. Do you have any unused laptops around? They're perfect for hosting.I hope you're comfortable, you won't be leaving. We're not keeping you, it's just that addictive. Also check out ohmybash and yunohost. 😉

@chrisprt @Richard I’m not official either, I’m using CachyOS with cosmic DE at home and PopOS! and company mandated windows at work. Technically Arch, but…I didn’t grow my kernel from the seeds of my ancestors or water it with the tears collected collected from the quitters on the forums, I also didn’t forge my own DE from the iron in my blood.Which is apparently what the “real” Linux users do. The cool guys who snobbery is restrained only by their inherent pedantry.

@souldessin I’ve been running my own local servers and a net utility raspberry pi on Linux for 5-6 years. But at the beginning of the month I pulled the trigger on desktop Linux, not just for me, but for every computer in the house. So far so good.

@Jagahati Nice! I've been housing for a bit too. I'll admit, yunohost has been nice for the ease of update and maintenance. I have another computer for the oddball docker or LAMP program. Home assistant, too.Moving to laptops has been real nice. The built in battery, keyboard, & screen has already come in handy. Better than one tower slurping up over 200 watts. What are you hosting?

@souldessin main box has game servers for family and friends (Minecraft, Palworld, Valheim, Satisfactory) the trustless vpn clients for each, and some monitoring utilities and whatever else I might be playing around with.Raspberry pi is running PiHole, Unbound, and a tailscale connector and my DDNS.

@Jagahati @chrisprt >I didn’t grow my kernel from the seeds of my ancestors or water it with the tears I collected myself from the weak quitters on the forums, I also didn’t forge my own DE from the iron in my blood.I'm adapting this into a new Linux copy pasta. Lol

@chrisprt @Richard something has to separate the “Elite” Linux folks from the rest of the rabble!
