@ShadowJonathan isn't that just "copy a file to the mods/ directory"? is gen z tech literacy *that* bad?

@ShadowJonathan@tech.lgbt @jilotta@mastodon.ml yes. for that you need to know what a file and a directory are

@green @ShadowJonathan @jilotta it was more difficult. Modloader was unpacked inside the jar file iirc

@ShadowJonathan @jilotta Or ~/.minecraft on unixes, also don't forget to delete META-INF and well… have an archiver (Windows being pretty much the only one without one builtin :P).

@jilotta @ShadowJonathan back then it was also "open minecraft.jar with winrar, put files into it and don't forget to delete signature"

@a1ba @xerz @Jes @jilotta @green @risc It reminded me how Husky sometimes downloads files without the file extension (I guess some fedi software anonimises filenames too well), and then android doesn't show them in media pickers, because it cannot guess the format...

@tiredbunnot sure about extensions but there was a bug in Pleroma when it couldn't guess the type of mp4 file because iirc it used system wide libmagic which for some was too outdated to understand new codecs@xerz @Jes @jilotta @green @risc

@jilotta@mastodon.ml i think iphones don't have them exposed to the end user, but i'm not sure.that's not quite the point. on phones (and presumably chromebooks. i never had one) engaging with the file system is optional. you can do every single daily task by just using the "Recent" tab. when was the last time you moved or copied a file on your phone (outside of stuff like termux).a phone is just like, a pile of downloads, a pile of photos, and a pile of screenshots.
