@alexmdunne it's a 110 year old Bristolian Gaff Cutter 😉 which won the 1927 Fastnet race, and is heading back to contest the 2027 Fastnet on the centenary of its previous victory!

@alexmdunne nice. My dad and I watched them together (from afar) every 2 weeks for several years until he died in 2024.

@lightweight That sounds pretty neat. And tender. Hadn't known. Sorry for your loss.

@alexmdunne thanks. It was a craftsmanship phenomenon, how Leo did stuff, right up our mutual (my pop's and mine) alley. Great to hear it blows your hair back as well 😉

@lightweight The series of videos in the sail loft was prob my fave, but so many many are amazing.

@alexmdunne yep. That was impressive - Leo 'does shit right'. No corners cut. Inspirational. And his videography is stunning. He even used an original song by a mate of mine (a muso & keen sailor) here in ÅŒtautahi in a video.

@alexmdunne his cast of characters was also pretty delightful, along with all their 'in jokes' (like Pete's legs, Nick's hair, and Paddy's dresses, etc.). And, of course, Pancho (Ms.).

@lightweight Sept of '24 we took the fast ferry to Victoria, B.C. for the day to see TH at the Wooden Boat Show. It was returning from its maiden voyage around Vancouver Island. Figured it would be too mobbed the following weekend at the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Show, so off to Vic we went. That's also the weekend we realized we were boat nerds: when you take one boat to visit another one. . . .

@lightweight correct, yes, sorry for the shorthand. Bought a 40ft cruiser in 2021. Researching boats and boat restoration led me to TH videos online. There's so much craftsmen mastery by everyone in the those videos. But what I got most from them is that almost ANY boat, no matter how far gone, can be restored with enough vision, passion, and focus.
