       i was playing half life 1 the other day and i cant believe it took me like 25 years to notice that when you're in `thirdperson` mode, you can see that when gordon dies, the 'beep beep beeeep' sound effect is emitted from him, so his mouth moves as if he is saying it. while lying dead on the ground. his final words

       finally started playing ""black mesa source"" today after waiting for so long that i forgot it existed. first impressions are that it MAY look pretty good, but i can't say for sure, since even in bright areas its too dark to see anything

       @jk first time i bought i got stuck in a level with ton of monsters and no ammo so I ragequit for several years. last year i played it and it was actually fun

       theres a gamma setting, but it only works in fullscreen mode, and when i put the game into fullscreen mode it appears on the wrong screen. i tried it out briefly though and it made everything look really weird, so im assuming the intended appearance is this "chiaroscuro" aesthetic, at which it excels

       i suppose the bulk of the development was done in that era like, idk, circa 2010 when all games looked a bit like this? i found it really baffling. theres so many games i cant play because their gamma or rendering is wrong in this specific way. original HL2 didn't have this problem, but i seem to remember some games like maybe fallout or bioshock or something did? i dont know though, since i didn't play those... because they looked like this
