Kia ora fedizens, a few months ago I was shoulder-tapped to take on stewardship of fediverse.party. One of a bunch of websites that aim to gather lots of useful info about the fediverse in one place. This is a project I've been a casual contributor to for years, and I really want to see it maintained. So I said yes.(1/2)#fediverse #FediverseParty

Problem is, I've been drifting in and out of burnout since 2020 (if not longer), and I'm currently struggling with the day-to-day, while trying to support aging family members. I really want to work on fediverse.party, but I'm not sure I have the spoons.I'm happy to be a steward in the sense of holding the site's history and other institutional knowledge, and giving feedback on update or reform proposals. Does anyone have enthusiasm for driving this?(2/2)

"I will take the ring....but I do not know the way"I might but want to understand the scope. What's the nature of what you had imagined doing (for a sense of the kind of skill and/or time involved before I explore any deeper)? If it helps I got an 84% on the quiz 😁

(1/2)@growfediverse> What's the nature of what you had imagined doingThe most urgent set of tasks involve updating the current content on the site;* updating the team page to reflect the change of personnel* adding an article to the Chronicles page to announce the change of steward and invite contributions* removing any discontinued projects from the apps list* adding any new ones that meet the criteria for being listed* pruning or adding to the suggested server list, as needed

(2/2)There's also finishing the weeding of the wiki, so it has a coherent structure, and it's easier for contributors to find info there, or make quick notes for reference in later updates.I've been dumping various plans and ideas for updates into the Issues board, and inviting others to do the same. So maybe have a skim of that too.

@frxe> what's the amount of regular work and maintenance each day/weekThat's a bit of a 'how long is a piece of string' question. It currently gets bits and pieces of people's time, as and when we have the spoons. So any amount number of hours per week would be an improvement.> how much hosting resources are neededIts a static site, updated via repo commits and pushed to production via the CodeBerg CI. So hosting requirements are pretty minimal, and hosting is sorted for the foreseeable.

Ok so far so good, will read through the issues and couple more questions:- How often did you estimate needing to tend to it in order for it to not be a "ghost ship adrift"? Is it a some time per day level effort or a few times a week? Or any time sensitive stuff like "x must be dealt with by y date for Important Reasons"- Does updating any of the various things require deeper technical know how? I have decent fluency in wiki syntax, html, a teeny bit of CSS enough to backwards engineer things, and im used to various gui cms (e.g. drupal, joomla, wordpress, vortex type stuff), but I'm not to the level of say pushing php changes to git or other webstack dev tier stuff.

@growfediverse > How often did you estimate needing to tend to it> Does updating any of the various things require deeper technical know how?See my reply to @frxe;https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/@strypey/115958413179702712It sounds like your level of tech skills is pretty similar to mine. There are other team members with deeper tech skills whose brains we can pick as needed. They just don't have time or energy to drive the update work that's needed.

@growfediverse @frxe Basically, fediverse.party is a static reference site. There's a backlog to be worked through, to get the current content up-to-date. Once it is, a few hours a month would probably be enough to keep it current. Depending on how much new fediverse development happened that month. When the founder was actively updating it, all I did was update the watchlists on the wiki when I learned anything new. She then used that as a reference, saving her time when to updating the site.
