       i cannot fully express the antipathy that i have to the ACM DL.  the idea that the pdfs are now open, and therefore the rest of the thing should be more closed to compensate -- infuriating

       i am not opposed to paying for things!  i have dozens of media subscriptions, some for freely-available publications!  but the acm dl has always rubbed me so wrong that i never join.  the idea of a professional association sounds nice, i wish we had one!
