Just watched another video on how kids aren't learning to read (U.S. based), (and how 5-year-olds come to kindergarten not properly potty trained). Comments include people talking about young employees who can't follow instructions and can barely read or do basic maths. If I was in HR or any other hiring position in that sort of context, I would ditch all fancy interview questions or strategies. The applicants would get a sheet of written instructions they would have to explain back to me in their own words, another sheet with basic maths problems, and they would be asked to solve a simple practical problem. And only those who managed all three would make it to the second round. I'm going to issue a prediction: sooner or later this will be actual reality in job interviews.

@Gnomeshatecheese I hope your prediction is correct because I do badly in interviews (low bullshit tolerance!) but I think I would ace it under your proposed method. The reading thing is really sad. The worst part is that teaching a kid to read (assuming no serious learning disabilities) isn't particularly difficult. I taught mine with just a library card and my common sense.
