       not sure that device firmware needs to be packaged by the os... I think that's common in the u-boot world because u-boot sucks. wasn't that way with the OLPC machines firmware!

       @khm Yeah, it's why I'm glad some boards (like here RockPro64, VisionFive2 and I think Honeycomb LX2K too) allow to have boot firmware on SPI flash but it seems to be quite rare, specially when you go outside devboards or servers territory.Like I wouldn't be surprised that the ARM Thinkpads are a mess in that regard.
