Woo hoo! Managed to get Dog to eat about 95% of his worming tablet! Only took grinding it to powder, mixing it with an egg and some powdered cheese, then scraping the remains out of the bowl and smearing it on my dinner plate….

@EatKnitSleep2 Still got the horrible flea drops to do. I’ll do it at bed time and then change the bedding in the morning. Hate that stuff, I wish I could get him to eat those pills but even with egg and cheese he refuses.

@Flick Good luck!I give hound rabbit ears and sheep ears with the hair still on them because it's a natural wormer. I don't think there are any natural alternatives for fleas though, and once you've got them they are a nightmare to get rid of.

@EatKnitSleep2 Funnily, it’s not your typical worms and fleas I’m bothered about: he has so little contact with other dogs that they’re a minor worry. It’s lung/heart worm (he has been known to eat slugs) and ticks that I’m trying to avoid.

@benis_redux @Flick Knowing flick's dog, he'd know it was a setup and refuse to eat the slug!

@Flick Makes you wonder what goes on in their heads for a slug to be more appetising than a lovingly crafted egg/cheese/worm pill combo!

@EatKnitSleep2 My assumption is that the slug had just been eating some roadkill or similar and smelled “good”….

In other news, after yesterday’s poo-and-return mission and today’s don’t-even-bother-to-poo, I had hoped he would be full of energy for his swimming lesson. He wasn’t. We jacked it in after three minutes (he used to do eight, lately it!/ been six or seven). Sigh. Poor old man. We’ve managed two half-hour walks this week, I may have to phone the DTs to let them know why we’ve not been to visit.

@benis_redux Swimming? Treadmill hydrotherapy. He has a spine problem, so we go every few weeks as a management technique. Given that the vet was at one point (about six years ago) talking about surgery, it has been very successful.

@benis_redux Thankfully, he doesn’t consider his hair and nail supplements to be medicinal. He is in very good nick for his age. I think I probably go on about it because he has just suddenly got very noticeably old in the last six months or so, and I’m still not used to it and worrying about him.

@benis_redux He used to do four bursts of two minutes at a time on the treadmill. Today, we stopped after three bursts of one minute. (Jacked it in = quit, stopped as it was pointless.)
