Never was a fan of the Dead but I can see how people are. Particularly annoyed that Ween got dragged into that ecosystem but with 3+ hour dynamics sets, it's a draw those folks. Butthole Surfers were my Grateful Dead and I don't recall any overlap in the crowd there. Though there probably was... it's all a haze.

@Unabart The Dead are an "important" and beloved band, and so one day I resolved to sit and critically listen to a lot of their music, to see if I could finally get into it. I relaxed and concentrated and let the music move through me... And I just hated all of it, haha. Well, I sincerely tried!

@Judge_Earl_P_Thayton I went to Vegas to see them live with Steve Miller Band. Too much fry in the million degree Vegas summer tarmac parking lot, everything was crooked, like I was losing my balance. Went to the porta potty that had a mountain of shit coming out the top of the bowl. Bad trip turned to worse trip when I couldn’t find my friends anymore. Nearly crawled out of there on all 4s to the taxi line and went back to the hotel and sat next to the AC for what felt like weeks. Not my scene!

@Unabart @Judge_Earl_P_Thayton Way back when, some promoter put Steve Miller and Miles Davis together in a show and gave Miller top billing. Miles refused to play unless he got top billing, and I couldn't blame him. Ah, but he was okay with opening up for the Dead. He probably gained a lat of new fans that night. SF, so the acid was flowing.

@Unabart @Judge_Earl_P_Thayton I must have seen the Dead about 40 times, but they weren't very interesting to me after Blues for Allah. I did and still do like the Garcia Band a lot better. My last Dead show was at Soldier Field in Chicago 2 years before Garcia boarded his kinda saucer. Having to wade through knee-deep cans and bottles and step over passed-out puking hippies was the deal-breaker. Small venues for punk, jazz or classical is what I like now.

@Spud_Coolzip @Judge_Earl_P_Thayton I watched later of a video where GD were playing in some desert place on a small stage. Looked like a million degrees out and everybody... band and crowd... looked stupendously fried. I'm sure they were playing their songs but it sounded like everyone was playing a different song. Garcia certainly was playing something else... noodling and tuning. Probably was a fun time. Would have been better if it were Ween. I'll try and track this down.

@Spud_Coolzip @Judge_Earl_P_Thayton Ok, I think this is the one. It gets exciting around the 7 min mark when it appears that all the individual songs they’ve been playing finally came together to create the song they’re supposed to be playing. This lasts only about 90 secs before they’re all off working on new material again. Not long after this I fell asleep and dropped the ipad on my face, so I haven’t sat through the whole thing. They all seem to be on good LSD.https://youtu.be/6JukZBGgv8I

@Unabart You can't touch the original version of El Paso by Marty Robbins, but more than a few of us like the Dead's take. That's quite a follow-up to an acid soundtrack like Dark Star. Someone commented on the vid, saying "I have Never seen LSD live before , but iv (sic) dropped The grateful Dead a few times." Side note: I was in a terrible band years ago. Once in a while, an okay guitarist would drop in and drink our beer and start singing "Way down in the vast unwashed cracks of my asshole."
