       For January, I'll be posting (almost) everything on @mikka@mikka.is instead of here. 2026 is the year (hopefully) of a more personal, more independent, more responsible and responsive social internet, and posting not from an instance but TO instances from your own system is one of those steps most of us can and should take.I'll still be here (it's my server after all) and engage, discuss, comment, love, share, things directly. And my posts will partially be boosted by this account. But all in all, it's worth the experiment, to not stay stuck in one Fediverse methadone clinic to avoid the harsh streets of Heroin and Fentanyl Social Media, but to move further into a self-determined and online social life.It's not like we don't know how to do it. We did it, all the way until the Silos offered us connections with others. Connections that never existed, connections that were short highs of likes and shares and social interaction, as hollow and as destructive to us, as crack cocaine's high. Soon we were chasing the "one more follower", "one more retweet", "one more viral" hit, that got duller and duller. More was needed, and in its pursuit we never asked ourselves if what we did there was healthy. It wasn't.The Fediverse isn't just "another Twitter/Instagram/whatever", it's a chance at reclaiming our independence and getting that sobriety chip. The "social" is fake, the highs are short, and the applause a canned response.January, as I explore the intersection of medicine and society,  I will do so from mikka.is.
