@0x00string I was so surprised jst how easy importing repos is.You can even overshoot single file upload limits of single file web commits.I have yet to use #Gitea .. I wonder if it has staying power #Codeberg rocks tho :blobcatsnuggle:

@alcea @Codeberg is based on one of the forks of @gitea called @forgejo . Gitea is based on #gogs, the OG of the #Go #Git Services. I already was nice before 2015 if I remember correctly. So I guess, there's some staying power in this thing. It just happens to change its name and custodians from time to time... 😆 To my knowledge one of the main points of Forgejo was the intend to enable #federation of these forges. Not sure how done that is is though. Give it a go, setup used to be quite painfree through all of them. DB migrations always were...not amazing but mostly stable.

@jti42 @alcea yup, we are working on federation and have a few PRs in already. We are focused on spam prevention, and user protections prior to fully opening things up. Another PR will be merged within the next two weeks:)

@alcea @Codeberg @gitea @forgejo I'd see the basic point (aside of Codeberg) of Gitea/Gogs/Forgejo in the fact that you just self-host those things. Gogs/Gitea used to be Raspberry-Pi capable for average use. Grab what calls itself #thinclient these days and throw it on there, that'll get you more bang/W and less hassle updating.

@alcea @jti42 Our latest major release even cut resource usage by 25%, and optimized a bunch of things so it’s even more friendly to self-host. We definitely encourage that than a centralized platform, which is why we are excited for federation:)
