There was a recent poll here about what Desktop OS you use and Linux was the most popular answer. This proves this community is far more technical than your average consumer.I'm not critical of that, I'm just saying we need to appreciate we aren't representative of that vast majority of people out there. I can't even get "normies" to *consider* joining the fediverse. I don't want to "chase numbers" I want my family members to be safe but we're doing a terrible job attracting them.

@scottjenson i think the idea that you're going to get everyone in "a family" onto the same service is gone and forgotten. I have friends of many ages and i have to maintain like 40 chat apps because of that. Discord, FB, gchat, matrix, zulip, mattermost, fedi this, fedi that, email, sms, ig, tt...

@picofarad I know lots of people that are tired of Twitter and want a more sane alternative. The Fediverse is a strong alternative, but there are "baddies" out there chasing people away for things like not using CWs properly. I'm saying we just need to be a little more inclusive. This shouldn't be something that needs to be said.

@scottjenson @picofarad the problem is just the same as bluesky, the people who are on here and made the culture have to deal with others ruining it! personally I love the CWs and wouldn't want to be on here without them so inclusivity in that regard would drive me away...call me when you can solve this problem, because fediblocks don't work at scale except for blocklists which are a nightmare mess as always for so many reasonsalso sorry if that came across as mean i'm autistic and socialed out from christmas so i don't have energy to make it sound nice

@technobaboo @scottjenson When i hear "complaining about lack of CW" i don't think X rated, i think of all the times i've seen CW on "eyes" or whatever.every graphical representation of something could be argued to be offensive to *someone*, at a certain point, the aggressive "you need to CW those eyes" people make the entire feed text and CW!

@picofarad @scottjenson you can suggest things without being aggressive, i'm generally not aggressive about things but it really is nice that the social norm is to cw stuff like that, eye contact is intimidating to me sometimes!!! it's not even offense, it's just having the labels applied to posts in metadata that no other social media has and if people stop using them then one of my favorite features is gone :(
