Inspired by @epilonious and @ATLeagle q.v. https://toot.lgbt/@epilonious/115634572950570688: introduce yourself with 5 cars you’ve owned. 1978 Triumph Toledo 1500 (yes, there was such a thing in New Zealand updated to 1978 Dolomite spec) 1989 Citroën AX14 TRS five-door (modernist design though I was limited in footwear choices due to the small footwell) 1998 Renault Mégane RT coupé 2003 Peugeot 307 HDI 2010 Renault Mégane I-Music coupéNot sure what is next, so hard to find manuals. #weirdcarmastodon #QOTD

@jackyan @epilonious @ATLeagleYeh the paucity of manuals is most upsetting, of course here all manual1980 Civic 5 Door1994 or '95 Nissan Sentra' 05 Ford Mondeo stationwagon'07 Daihatsu Sirion, legendary 1.0l engine' 05 Ford Mondeo sedan (boo, but for the same cost as a tank of petrol)Next, well as you can see I'm not so picky on age so could still pick up a manual relatively easy

@IceNine @epilonious @ATLeagle I quite liked those CD132 Mondeos. It got so hard to get a manual here that I had to ship the last one in from the UK—probably not a smart thing to do again in 2025 given COVID-era shipping prices. So I just keep that car going … plus they mostly stopped making little coupés now, and I don’t want to go German.

@jackyan @epilonious @ATLeagleYeh my engine is getting a tad tired, but actually a fair bit is down to the clutch which is becoming slippy. The wife's Hyundai however failed warrant on a brake light going.Turns out it's the LED that went, necessitating the whole light unit be replaced. It is spendy expensive.

@IceNine Eek, I get a bit worried about clutches. What are part prices like if you source via Ebay? I often get stuff directly when the mechanic has difficulties.

@jackyanI think ebay is spendy tooCar otherwise goes fine, but it does low k's generally. And is an automatic. At least it has a proper gearbox - some are terrible

@IceNine I was getting stuff for my Renault pretty cheaply ex-UK. Sometimes would send to a friend who would then send on just to save a few pounds. Even bought one item for the first Mégane ex-Palestinian occupied territories! So many problems would be solved if we weren't driving slush boxes IMO!

@IceNine Nooo! The Sherpa was only meant to be a stopgap, not something that would survive into the LDV era.

@jackyan @IceNine I bet that straight six would sound pretty good when it's running, would be a good Rat Rod project with out much alteration. Big Wednesday tomorrow buy on the Thursday. I've added it to the watch list

@jackyan @GruffHardingI found another green car - a bit suss because had one a a courtesy car and performance was significantly below my 1.0L Sirion. Albeit the courtesy car was a nasty auto teamed with their nasty 1.3L engine 😬If you hadn't guessed, colour is a bonushttps://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/hyundai/getz/listing/5686754070

@jackyan I have limited sense of surroundings and thus don't own a car, but> 1989 Citröen AXMy dad owned BX of same marque and MY, applauded it of its suspensions, but ultimately sold it due to the engine being unreliable in tropical climate. If I could drive and had the capital I'd acquire one of those, not as a daily driver ofc (not that I'd ever think about daily driving any car in the densest city on Earth). As I am I have to settle with a Honda Astrea moped.

@pesekcuy I love the AX. I owned one in the 1990s, a five-door AX14 TRS. Great car, although the footwell was tiny and with size 45 feet I could not wear dress shoes if I drove it! Excellent modernist design, very, very light, lots more of the length devoted to humans rather than engine. Sadly the cylinder head gasket went.

@pesekcuy However, I was less impressed with the BX and drove several of them. Some had too wallowy a suspension, others were more conventional. Despite the smaller size I far preferred the AX.

@jackyan here the market was more segregated; people wanted either tough leafsprings or soft <any modern alternative>, the former being served by locally-engineered toyota wagons and the latter by the likes of mercedes. citroen (and peugeot) tried to fill the latter's market, and while the suspensions is beyond the expectations, the unreliable engine is what prevented citroen from gaining tractions, left the market as economics waned in 1990s (peugeot however managed to survive, albeit barely, until this day). BX was the only model offered here back then, assembled locally as CKD
