@midway @CSB Saying "the cloud" is equal to your home desktop is a gross oversimplification of the tech stack needed for cloud, and related micro-, services to work. That doesn't change ownership of the hardware and day (not W11 OS) from you personally owning it to having a corpo, or contracted 3rd party, owning hardware and data.

@CSB From one contract of ownership to another, you're still trusting corpo's, who are not trustworthy, to honor their end of the deal to release and delete your data. I think this is the point of "cloud" = "not my computer" folks are attempting to make. It's a simplification for a risk assessment to that non-techies can understand and implement any needed mitigations.

I don’t think anyone (certainly not me) is saying that cloud is equivalent to someone’s home desktop. But a computer is far more than just that. The cloud is built on computers of various types so saying it’s someone else’s computer is certainly simplistic but not inaccurate. It is someone else’s infrastructure which is used to run lots of computers. Using the phrase isn’t retarded as was originally stated.
