@Linux Floorp is making it opt-in but isn't excluding it.

@cynical13 Yes, so user can choose. Regular Mozilla Firefox is making it opt-out (and probably via needlessly technical way - not with a "click of a button").

@hj Firefox derived does not mean "equals Mozilla Firefox" - since Firefox itself is open source; forks can rip out anything they want and go "clean".

@Linux @hj in theory, yesIn practice, all hut floorp (and probably also floorp) lack the manpower to make significant changes and thus rely heavily on mozilla's patch cadence. All of those browsers are just glorified user.js + extension setups, tbh

a statement from LibreWolf team:"As there seems to have been recent confusion about this, just a quick "official" toot to then pin: we haven't and won't support "generative AI" related stuff in LibreWolf. If you see some features like that (like Perplexity search recently, or the link preview feature now) it is solely because it "slipped through". As soon as we become aware of something like this / it gets reported to us, we will remove/disable it ASAP." https://chaos.social/@librewolf/115716906957137196

@Suiseiseki @Linux >Unfortunately it seems there is aggressive scraping with the lynx useragent.I've gathered, and it confuses me, because it's significantly easier to get started with curl. It's gonna turn out to be some weird ethnic thing, isn't it? Like the chinks or something got really into lynx and never looked at anything else.

a statement from Waterfox team:"... browsers are operating systems of their own, and a browser’s job is to be a good steward of that environment. AI, in its current form and in my opinion does not match that responsibility.... The core browsing experience should be one that fully puts the user in control, not one where you’re constantly monitoring an inscrutable system that claims to be helping you.Waterfox will not include LLMs. Full stop."https://www.waterfox.com/blog/no-ai-here-response-to-mozilla/

@Linux @Suiseiseki The other thing I need to change in lynx is that if you disable cookies by default in config, it's a pain in the ass to enable them, you basically have to restart your session with a flag passed.Although I guess if I just alias that flag then it's ok

@hj @warmbeverageenjoyer There are many options and browsers (plus their teams) are prone to grow. Ladybird and Servo based ones in development then again provide a whole new ground. Happening already possibly next year.

@Linux @hj I'm looking forward to ladybird and servo but both have had development issues and I don't expect to see them any time soonVaguely interested in irion also but I don't have a macLook, putting together a list of browsers is good, but pretending that they're all independent or unique is counterproductive. Especially with things like Zen on there (it's "developed" by an overconfident, incompetent fool)

@hj @warmbeverageenjoyer Basically there are just choices for pretty much everyone. If Vivaldi (for example) is the one making someone *looking for automatic AI:less browser* sticking with Linux - it's worth to put there innit. Have not heard much bad at all about Vivaldi either...

@hj @warmbeverageenjoyer Sure - that is one way to see it. But there are surprisingly many ppl who cannot find their home in any of the free as in freedom browsers - and still want to use a PC computer - so there's that. Nothing prevents discovering other options later on - as the time goes by - and information about sorts of things you're talking about and are important to YOU, increase.

@Linux the ladybird browser is built by a real... Piece of work in pretty much the worst way.I wouldn't trust him even a little bit. And certainty wouldn't expect them to ever release anything worth having. It's a political project, and not in the "GNU is a political project" sort of way.

@Linux I am a Floorp user and from what I’ve experienced, Floorp has intentionally kept AI features in (and if I’m not wrong, are adding more in as on by default). I plan to switch at some point when I find another browser or fork.I recommend you remove it from the list.(related note, I’ve been working on my own “browser” for macOS that doesn’t have AI integration in it. It’s not complete or “good” but it’s very minimal and I’m still working on it.https://codeberg.org/NerdNextDoor/inori)

@Linux what does @Waterfox develop actually in terms of browser/engine? besides taking actual firefox and stripping it down from certain features?I mean great - let's everyone ditch Firefox, mozilla will die and… what will waterfox do?
